RTVE and the Autonomous University of Barcelona create the chair for news innovation in the digital society

Both institutions sign a collaboration agreement that will allow them to cooperate in innovation, training and dissemination.

Spanish Radiotelevision and the Autonomous University of Barcelona have signed a collaboration agreement to create the chair for news innovation in the digital society, which will allow both institutions to cooperate in innovation, training and dissemination. The agreement has been signed by the rector of the UAB, Ferran Sancho and the corporate general director of RTVE, Enrique Alejo, in the university's rectorate.

Enrique Alejo recalled that "this is the third chair that the RTVE Corporation creates, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of TVE and its first broadcasts from Paseo de La Habana." “The University has a lot to contribute, since it is a hotbed of ideas, knowledge, innovation and contact with young people.” “We want to open the doors and windows of RTVE, which has been a pioneer and continues to be so.”

Sancho pointed out that "we are very happy that you are here to sign the agreement to create this chair, since in the end it will be the professors who will develop their initiatives."

The RTVE-UAB chair has its origins in the Observatory for News Innovation in the Digital Society (OI2), created by RTVE and the UAB in September 2015 to observe news narratives and reflect on media, formats and the evolution of technologies. The first director of the Chair will be José Manuel Pérez Tornero, professor at the UAB, who will work in close coordination with RTVE professionals to promote activities that allow the generation of innovative content and formats.

The agreement provides for collaboration in the following areas:

– Innovation in terms of formats and content; in technology and production models; in cooperation, participation and development models; and in information and social networks.
– Training to allow the staff of both institutions to acquire knowledge and experiences in their different areas of action.
– Dissemination in the field of information and communications technologies (ICT).
