NHK creates a multimedia player capable of processing images in 8K60p format

NHK Media Technology, a technological subsidiary of the Japanese public broadcaster, has designed a multimedia player capable of processing images in 8K60p format. To create this solution called HyperCube MHP-8000, NHK has used four HyperDeck Studio 12G recorders from Blackmagic Design.
Kazuki Naito, in charge of business development in NHK's engineering department, acknowledges that "we intended to create a device capable of reproducing content in 8K, to ensure that a greater number of people could access these advances. In principle, our company emphasized image synchronization. Using this technology and combining different 4K players that already exist on the market, we were able to create a device that allowed the processing of content in 8K30P format. After this first step, we tried to develop another model that could reproduce material in 8K60P resolution, and it was then that Blackmagic launched the HyperDeck Studio 12G.”
Hideo Inou, an engineer at NHK Media Technology, highlighted, for his part, that "at the beginning there were not enough 4K60P players on the market, but our main idea at that time was to create an affordable device that could play images in 8K resolution. One of the challenges we faced was the need to be able to control it externally. The HyperDeck Studio 12G recorder met all the requirements and, on the other hand, was very adaptable. In addition, its design is very good. For Luckily, that's when Sharp launched an 8K television with four HDMI inputs on the market, so we didn't need to use additional converters, resulting in savings.”
