AIMS efforts focus on promoting the adoption, standardization, development and refinement of open media protocols regarding IP adoption.

AIMS

La Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) has incorporated Riedel. Founded in 1987, headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Riedel Communications is recognized as a pioneer of real-time audio and video networking and communications applications, in particular digital audio matrix systems and fiber-based real-time media network technology.

Its products and technologies, including MediorNet, the first fiber-based video network for integrated signal transport, are in common use throughout the world of broadcast, professional audio, events, sports, theater and security applications.

Lars Hoehmann, MediorNet product manager at Riedel, said: "At the company, we have always been dedicated to facilitating reliable and versatile workflows that meet the individual requirements of our customers. By joining the AIMS, we extend support for our product, providing our customers with more benefits in terms of standards-based communications solutions while enabling new plug-and-play offerings. Our goal, as a solutions provider, is to secure their investments and support them on their path to IP-based communication.

AIMS efforts focus on promoting the adoption, standardization, development and refinement of open media protocols regarding IP adoption, with an initial emphasis on VSF TR-03 and TR-04, SMPTE 2022-6 and AES67. Broadcasters and other media companies are seeking to leverage IP technology to increase the flexibility of their networks, help simplify workflows and improve agility to better compete in a rapidly evolving ecosystem. Open standards are the key to protecting current investments and ensuring long-term interoperability.

Open working standards for the IP transition are already underway by the seventy-seven members of the Video Services Forum (VSF), with the support of organizations such as SMPTE and the EBU. AIMS supports the work of the VSF and will continue to provide support in the development of a standard approach to IP. More than thirty equipment suppliers and broadcasters were involved in the development of VSF TR-03 which companies are actively testing and validating today. AIMS supports an IP transition plan that includes support for SMPTE 2022-6, AES67, and VSF recommendations TR-03 and TR-04.

A number of solutions, already on the market to help media companies, are enabling a transition by introducing IP components into an SDI workflow. The transition represents a significant investment and will not happen overnight. The open standards approach allows media companies to apply technology over time and transition at the pace that makes sense for their businesses.
