Yvonne Blake promises transparency and modernity as new president of the Film Academy

Blake will be accompanied by director Mariano Barroso and actress Nora Navas. One of its first measures will be the election of the general director, after the dismissal of Porfirio Díaz a few weeks ago.

The costume designer Yvonne Blake was elected president of the Academy this weekend during the General Assembly that was held at the institution's headquarters.

Blake, acting president since last July, is accompanied in her new position by the director and screenwriter Mariano Barroso and the actress Nora Navas as first and second vice presidents, respectively.

The vote count has been closed with the participation of 248 academics, among them 193 have voted in favor and 50 against. 3 blank votes and 2 null votes have also been counted.

Goals

Blake's first objective will be to regain the trust of the board of directors, made up of the president, his two vice presidents, a treasurer, a general director and two members from each of the film specialties.

Blake has based his candidacy on the promise of transparency, modernity, more flexible statutes and honesty.

In relation to the next edition of the Goya Awards, Blake anticipates that it will be a “somewhat more sober” gala, although we want to do “something fresher and different.”

Blake assumed the interim presidency of the Academy after the resignation of Antonio Resines in mid-July due to his “serious disagreements” with the board of directors. Previously, Enrique González Macho resigned in February 2015, nine months into his second consecutive term.
