The Iris Awards paid tribute to 60 years of Television in Spain

'The Ministry of Time', a great winner by achieving all the awards it was eligible for: best fiction, direction, script and actress (Aura Garrido).

More than 1,000 television professionals attended the event this Wednesday at the Gran Casino Aranjuez for the 18th Iris Awards Ceremony of the Academy of Television Sciences and Arts, which was broadcast live by 13tv.

Nieves Herrero and Ramón Arangüena were the masters of ceremonies of a gala that included the collaboration of professionals, production companies and television networks. During the Awards ceremony, tribute was paid to the 60 years since the arrival of television in Spain. At the Ceremony, unpublished fragments of the interviews from the Academy's audiovisual archive, Living Treasures, could be heard, which collects the professional testimonies of great masters of the medium such as Fernando García de la Vega, Chico Ibáñez Serrador, José María Íñigo or Matías Prats, among others. In addition, some of the images most remembered by the audience in the history of TVE were broadcast. The Ceremony also had the collaboration of the Ángel Plana school of specialists.

Awards were presented in the different categories by numerous television professionals such as Thais Blume, Javier Gutiérrez, María Pelayo, Ricardo Altable, Isabel Ordaz, Carlos Castel, Jorge Luengo, Juan Gea, Eva González, Samantha Vallejo-Najera, Pepe Rodríguez, Ana Rodríguez Martí, Ana Obregón, Gonzo, Cristina Villanueva, María Rey, María Casado, Antonio Jiménez, Patricia Betancourt, David Alemán, Borja Terán, Juanma Fernández, Susana Alosete, Pepa Rus, Federico Aguado, Mari Carmen Izquierdo, Alex O'Doherthy, Ivonne Reyes, Vanesa Romero, Aura Garrido, The Man in Black, Antonio López, Carlos Cuesta, Alfredo Urdaci, María Rodríguez Vico, Sandra Golpe, Jota Abril, Marta Reyero, Nya de la Rubia, Fernando Guillén Cuervo and Vicente Vallés.

Tribute to the pioneers

The president of the Academy Manuel Campo Vidal wanted to pay tribute last night "to the pioneers of television in Spain who worked in the most difficult circumstances and also created a school." "Tonight we are here to recognize excellence and it is enough to review the list of finalists to see the quality of the programs that are made in Spain. Thank you very much to everyone for the effort, commitment and work, to those awarded and to those who have not been fortunate enough to be awarded. In these times of audiovisual transition the Television Academy will always be at the side of professionals and companies to defend the sector and the dignity of television."

Nieves Herrero had an emotional memory for the teacher and founder of the Jesús Hermida Academy: "In this tribute to the 60 years of television in Spain there is someone who revolutionized the world of television, that person taught us to love television. His philosophy made us be professionals who wanted to learn more every day and tell a television that until that moment had been very static. Thank you Jesús Hermida for changing the world of television and for giving us a chance."

Paloma Gómez Borrero wanted to remember in her speech upon receiving the Lifetime Award that living this profession has allowed her to do things as gratifying as being a direct witness to “so many pages of the history of the last 50 years.” "I can only say to the Academy, to the President, to all of you: thank you very much. And thanks also to my husband and my children, to my brother, because without your patience, without your understanding, without your help, perhaps I would not have been able to do what I have wanted to do all my life."
