The Television Academy announces the finalists for the Iris Awards
The awards that were born during the presidency of Antonio Mercero celebrate 20 years of history.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences today announced the professionals and finalist programs to the Iris Awards 2018 among the more than 450 candidates presented by television stations, producers and members of the Academy, a hundred more than the last edition.
The winners will be voted by the academics among all the nominees, secretly and before a notary, and will be announced at the end of October during the awards ceremony.
This year marks two decades since the birth of the Television Academy Awards, which were created in 1998 during the presidency of Antonio Mercero to recognize the excellence of television professionals and programs in Spain.
In the coming weeks, along with the awards that are voted on before a notary by academics, a jury of renowned professionals will choose the Iris Jury Awards from among the different professions and professional areas of television. In addition, a committee of television critics and commentators will once again award the most valued professionals and programs of the season with the Iris Critics' Award.
The Academy Council, made up of representatives of the Board of Directors, television networks and rights management entities, will be in charge of choosing the Iris Autonomous Awards. It will also be the Council of the Institution that will award, once again, the 2018 Lifetime Award, in recognition of a professional career linked to the television medium.
