The Television Academy announces the 2020 Iris Jury Awards

In a year marked by the Covid-19 crisis, the jury has recognized television professionals with an Iris Award for their effort, creativity and courage to face, in times of pandemic, necessary coverage.

The professional committee in charge of deliberating the Iris Jury Awards 2020 has been formed by the Academy Talent Awards: Mar Martínez Raposo, Juan Andrés García Ropero (Bropi) and Carme Basté.

Also participating, representing the Board of Directors of the Institution: Beatriz Maesso, Jota Abril y Joana Carrion. The jury has decided to recognize with the Award for Best Fiction Direction Antonio Mercero a Carlos Theron y Javier Ruiz Caldera by Look what you've done series created by Berto Romero for Movistar+ produced in collaboration with El Terrat, "for having demonstrated throughout its three seasons that universal themes of the family and couple universe can be dealt with, innovating and with different perspectives than those already seen in the comedy genre."

In this edition also the jury that wanted recognize public and private television professionals with an Iris Award, "for the incredible work and capacity for reinvention in the face of the COVID-19 emergency. For the professional effort, creativity, rapid response, both in news and entertainment, to bravely face and, in many cases on the front line, necessary and unprecedented coverage in times of pandemic."

In addition, the following programs have been recognized with the 2020 Iris Jury Prize:

– Fan 3 from the Atresmedia Foundation for being a pioneering initiative and the only television channel specially designed for hospitalized children. With an open and free broadcast, it is present in more than 165 hospitals and has become a fundamental pedagogical support tool for pediatricians. In its fifteen years of experience it has managed to reach more than three million children.

– Of silk and iron (TVE's La 2) for being a high-quality public service format that addresses disability in a different way, with a very careful aesthetic and image.

– The visit (Telemadrid) por su apuesta transmedia para llevar la colección pictórica del Museo del Prado al prime time y sumarse de una forma original e innovadora, a través del género slow tv, al bicentenario de la pinacoteca logrando trasladar a los espectadores a la experiencia de una visita.

– Tabús (TV3) por la valentía de tratar temas delicados y sensibles con humor, en horario de prime time, y con gran éxito de audiencia. Por arriesgar y conseguir dar visibilidad a colectivos que no acostumbran a estar representados en la televisión y hacerlo con la máxima espontaneidad y sensibilidad. Tabús ha demostrado que el humor es una de las mejores herramientas para remover conciencias y que se puede hacer de forma tierna, valiente, respetuosa y humorística a partes iguales.

–Titanes sin fronteras (La 2 de TVE) por ser un programa de servicio público que nos acerca de forma valiente a la necesaria realidad de los cooperantes españoles en países en conflicto, azotados por la miseria, arrasados por la guerra o maltratados por el clima.

The Iris Jury Awards were born in 2016 with the reform of the Academy Awards regulations with the aim of recognizing, among the different professions of television, programs and professionals who have stood out in the television season.
