Sony develops new SSD drives specifically designed for 4K recording
The new Sony G Series Professional range SSDs of 480 GB (model SV-GS48) and 960 GB (SV-GS96) use SATA connectivity and offer read speeds of up to 550 MB/s and write speeds of 500 MB/s.
The new G series of external SSD drives from Sony for professional use is composed of two models (V-GS96 and SV-GS48) composed of two external SSD units for professional use. Compared to other alternatives for home use, these discs are designed for 4K video dumping, ensuring great durability, flexibility and reliability.
Sony, which already had the M series (with capacities of 240 GB and 480 GB, models SLW-MG2 and SLW-MG4, respectively), now adds two new 2.5″ units to its portfolio.
Now, the new 480 and 960 GB models are prepared for the maximum demands, with up to 2,400 TBW guaranteed in the 960 GB, that is, writing 5 TB per day for ten years. The number of Terabytes Written or TBW expresses the number of terabytes that can be written to a drive before it becomes read-only.

Unlike other SSDs whose transmission speed decreases as it is rewritten, in the new Sony discs it is possible to record 4K video at a stable speed even through several rewriting cycles. Likewise, advanced technology prevents sudden decreases in speed, guaranteeing the quality of 4K recording with total stability and without errors. Data is also protected against power failures.
