Using the same technology found in its popular Shogun and Ninja range, Atomos Neon, offers ProRes recording (including ProRes RAW), a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR support and 100% P3 range.

Neon Atoms

atoms has presented at Cine Gear 2019 the new Neon series, composed of four new monitors / recorders specially designed for television and film productions in HDR. Available in 17”, 24”, 31” y 55”, the Neon series is presented as an ecosystem of HDR field monitors designed to make work easier for creators, allowing them to have greater control and make better decisions at the time of recording.

Using the same technology found in its popular Shogun and Ninja range, Atomos Neon, offers ProRes recording (including ProRes RAW), a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR support and 100% P3 gamut (making full use of the dynamic range available in modern cinema cameras).

In addition, thanks to its Bluetooth connectivity, Neon allows full control of the user interface available from any smartphone. For the first time in a monitor/recorder, it comes with a specially designed iOS app that allows you to control recording, syncing and playback of up to 1000+ Neon monitors/recorders using Bluetooth. The app also has focus peaking, exposure, calibration, zoom waveform monitor, RGB monitor, vectorscope, and LUT selection. Real-time playback is also possible in the app.

The 17″ monitor is the only monitor of the four that is only Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), while the others offer 4K / UHD resolutions. It has a pixel density of 142 PPI, and 128 dynamic zoned backlighting. This technology was first used in their Shogun 7 monitor/recorder.

The Neon 24″ and Neon 31″ feature 4K DCI displays (4096 x 2160 pixels), 100% DCI-P3 10-bit color coverage, and dynamic zone backlighting. And finally, the 55″ version of the Atomos Neon monitors has a UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels).

For the first time, these screens are 10 bits, compared to the traditional 8+2 FRC used in its previous proposals. Additionally, they use the latest version of their operating system which can also be found on the Shogun 7 and Ninja V. All Neon recorders can record from HDMI, SDI and Quad-Link SDI sources, and all major camera manufacturers are compatible. Supports up to 10-bit HDMI without compression, as well as 12G-SDI with 12-bit and 4K RAW at up to 60p.

ProRes RAW recording is supported by all Neon recorders and of course also all other varieties of ProRes (LT, 422, 422 HQ) and Avid DnX. It is even compatible with Cinema DNG RAW.
