Genelec launches new Smart Active monitors
The new two-way S360A and 7382A subwoofer are designed for any professional application requiring high acoustic power or remote listening, from large immersive installations to post-production studios or film mixing rooms.
Continuing its goal of offering monitoring solutions for all room sizes and applications, Genelec has announced the launch of two new Smart Active monitors high sound pressure level, the S360A bidirectional and the subwoofer 7382A.
Both models are ideal for any professional application requiring high acoustic power or remote listening, from large immersive installations in post-production studios or film mixing rooms to live monitoring for music production, EDM playback or high-end home theaters.
Housed in a compact enclosure with high-quality Finnish joinery and extremely low, controlled diffraction, the S360 also features an upgraded high-efficiency, minimal-distortion 10-inch woofer based on Genelec's Master series, and a Genelec fully integrated extended directivity control waveguide supporting its 1.7-inch titanium diaphragm compression tweeter.
The result combines the neutrality for which Genelec is known, with a short-term sound pressure capability of 118 dB - with even higher peaks - and a long-range capability that can provide reference-quality accuracy even at listening distances of more than 33 feet (10 meters).
The S360 offers the benefits of primary monitor performance in a condensed form factor, including excellent on-axis characteristics and 95-degree (h) to 75-degree (v) dispersion without color.
Additionally, it offers versatile in-wall and in-wall mounting options, while the Laminar Integrated Port (LIP)'s flow-optimized and downstream integrated reflex ports ensure tight, noise-free bass output and are also perfectly suited for use with punch-hole displays.
Alternatively, when the S360 is used in standalone mode, the innovative Iso-Plate decouples the monitor from its base, focusing the low frequency output while preventing vibration transfer and air turbulence. Greater flexibility is possible thanks to the system's electronics, which can be integrated into the housing or positioned remotely.
Knowing that producing good content depends on monitors being correctly positioned, level aligned, time aligned and space offset, the S360 offers full integration with Genelec's GLM software, allowing monitor configuration, calibration and control of over 40 channels without the need for external processing.
Genelec's most powerful subwoofer
The ideal companion for both the S360 and Genelec's other large format monitors is the 7382 Smart Active Subwoofer, Genelec's most powerful subwoofer to date. The 7382 delivers precise and powerful low-frequency extension down to 15 Hz and houses three custom-designed 15-inch long-throw woofers. Each benefits from the vibration-free environment of a heavily braced fiberboard enclosure, with laminar bass-reflex flow extending along the entire rear wall to ensure low distortion and compression-free performance, even when the 7382 delivers outputs in excess of 130 dB SPL.
Drawing on integrated processing and decades of research, the 7382 also works with GLM software to control bass management and solve subwoofer placement problems in unpredictable rooms, and even to build complete sets of Genelec subwoofers.
The arrival of the S360 and 7382 coincides with the release of a new set of educational tools aimed at helping professionals understand and use Immersive Audio. Titled Genelec Immersive Solutions, the publication will include an overview of the requirements for creating an effective immersive audio setup, including information on the most commonly adopted formats and the Genelec solutions needed to get the most out of them. The publication, which will be released alongside the S360 and 7382, will also be available for download at this site.
