Hardwell renews its studio with smart active monitors from Genelec
The Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell, together with studio designer Jan Morel, has recently updated their private studio in Breda, replacing their Genelec 1034 by the latest generation 1234A intelligent active monitors.
“We started in the studio of his parents' house more than 13 years ago and, since then, Hardwell has not stopped refining and updating its spaces,” says Morel. “Each studio is a step beyond the previous one: its ideas are always evolving.” The new Breda studio reflects this organic growth", with every detail designed to meet Hardwell's high standards for sonic perfection."
At the heart of this latest studio overhaul are Genelec monitors, which Hardwell has always trusted for their audio quality. "The first time we built a studio together, Jan introduced me to Genelec speakers. I used other brands before, but the first time I heard the 1034s I was blown away. I've been hooked ever since," Hardwell reveals. In its latest configuration, Hardwell installed two main monitors 1234A whites as part of an impressive stereo monitoring system that also includes pairs of near field models 8341A and 8020D, complemented by a subwoofer 7073A. As part of the family Smart Active Monitoring, los models 1234A and 8341A They integrate closely with GLM calibration software, offering Hardwell complete control and clarity in their productions.
Accurate calibration
Reflecting on the technology, Hardwell explains that “Speakers are calibrated based on the room, and now the entire space feels like a sweet spot. I don't experience phase cancellation when I move, and everything sounds great. Normally you hear more bass at the back of the room, but these speakers balance it all out.”
With Morel's attention to detail, every aspect of the studio was designed to meet Hardwell's needs, often evolving through spontaneous changes and new ideas. Morel says that "with Hardwell, the design is an ongoing conversation. We would work on the front wall, and then he would say, 'Let's look at the ceiling,' then the side walls, and so on. The process remains exciting and the result is a studio perfectly suited to it."
The Breda studio now offers Hardwell a world-class environment to produce and explore new sonic horizons. His reaction to the Genelec monitors was very positive, expressing a renewed connection with his own music. “It's like rediscovering music,” says Morel. Hardwell's revamped studio is set to continue its journey into electronic music, with Genelec once again playing a central role in defining its sound.
