Editorial UOC publishes a book written by Manuel Balseiro Pérez in which he addresses the history, use and technique of hot head camera operation and its supports.

The hot head, a great step forward in camera movement

Manuel Balseiro Pérez, founder of TecnicaTv.com and senior image technician at TVE, where he works as a hot head and robotic camera operator, addresses in the book The hot head, a great step forward in camera movement the history, use and technique of using hot heads and their supports.

The book was born as a response to non-existent research and publications on camera work in hot heads. An exponentially growing audiovisual world since remote operation and robotic cameras are already the future.

The author, who is a member of the prestigious Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC) and the Digital Cinema Society (DCS), analyzes in this 176-page book from the simplest heads to the six-axis stabilized ones, as well as his way of working with different cameras and the supports where they are mounted (fixed cranes, telescopic, motion control, aerial,...)

It is the first publication in Spanish that delves into the principles of the hot head camera and its supports. Since its invention at the end of the seventies, the hot head has become one of the best supports for moving the camera in large television and film productions, essential in sports broadcasts, musicals or in the latest filming of blockbusters.

The unstoppable development of the hot head has imposed its use in both conventional cranes and motorized tracks, all-terrain vehicles, helicopters, drones, and cable aerial systems, among others. This book is a study that ranges from the simplest two-axis heads to six-axis gyro-stabilized ones, and it explains their use with different cameras. It also includes a getting started guide for the student or camera operator facing remote operation for the first time.
