Champions

Director Javier Fesser, winner of six Goya Awards and nominated for the Oscars at the Hollywood Academy, has completed filming Champions, his new film, after his previous foray into animated films with Mortadelo and Filemón against Jimmy the horny.

Champions is a comedy full of feelings and humor, with large doses of surrealism, due to the special situations that the characters experience, something common in the films of Javier Fesser (The Miracle of P.Tinto, The sedcleto of the trumpet…).

Javier Gutiérrez plays the protagonist, Marco, a professional basketball coach who finds himself, in the midst of a personal crisis, training a team made up of people with intellectual disabilities. What begins as a punishment ends up becoming a life lesson.

In addition to Javier Gutiérrez (The Minimum Island, Escape Plan), the casting is made up of a group of debuting actors with intellectual disabilities: Sergio Olmo, Julio Fernández, Jesús Lago, Jesús Vidal, José de Luna, Fran Fuentes, Gloria Ramos, Alberto Nieto Fernández, Roberto Chinchilla and Stefan López. Athenea Mata, Juan Margallo, Luisa Gavasa and Daniel Freire complete the cast. David Marqués is the author of the script along with Fesser himself.

Fesser assures that "Champions addresses the fascinating world of people with intellectual disabilities with the same sincerity and naturalness with which they face their lives. Their general lack of prejudices on any matter and their enviable penchant for saying things exactly as they think, allow their protagonists to go through an irredeemably fun and humanly delicious adventure.”

Pendelton Films, Morena Films and Movistar+ are the producers of Champions which has the participation of TVE. Distribution in Spain will be carried out by Universal Pictures International Spain.
