Hulu has chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its cloud provider, using its services for the launch of its new live online TV service. Hulu turned to AWS for a scalable, agile, and cost-effective infrastructure to support the addition of more than fifty live channels to Hulu with Live TV, released in May 2017.

Launching a live TV service based on AWS's reliable and secure infrastructure allows Hulu to deliver a great experience to viewers, even during sudden spikes in demand and traffic. AWS's comprehensive cloud offering allows Hulu to focus on continuing to innovate to deliver the best, most personalized content experience over the Internet, rather than managing infrastructure.

Rafael Soltanovich, vice president of software development at Hulu, highlights that the streaming platform "is redefining the television experience for viewers and we have raised the technological bar by incorporating live TV into our portfolio of services. We have chosen AWS as our cloud provider due to the wide variety of features it provides. Likewise, the elasticity, agility and security it offers us are key elements for the deployment of our new service. Putting our transmissions through streaming, format conversion (repackaging), in the hands of AWS. DVR storage and origin servers save us from spending time installing data centers, in addition to accelerating the bringing to market of services with greater availability.”

For his part, Mike Clayville, vice president of sales at AWS, reports that "leading media and entertainment companies like Hulu are looking for more efficient mechanisms for the deployment of scalable solutions for streaming over the Internet. The unmatched scalability and reliability of AWS allows Hulu to continue innovating and break new ground, offering, for example, live TV services alongside its extensive on-demand programming, without needing to invest millions of dollars and without devoting thousands of staff hours to setting up and managing service centers. data.”
