Grass Valley has supplied Studio Berlin, a German full-service provider of live television production solutions, with a suite of equipment for its mobile units and production centres, including 41 LDX 80/82/86/86N series cameras and LDX C80 series compact cameras plus six K-Frame video switchers capable of 4K UHD production. This acquisition is part of a three-year contract with Grass Valley. In total, Studio Berlin will purchase 70 LDK cameras during that period.

The first delivery includes a dozen LDX 86N WorldCam cameras with XF Fiber transmission and 4K UHD GV-eLicenses; eleven LDX 86 WorldCam 3G/HD cameras, also with XF fiber transmission and HiSpeed/XtremeSpeed GV-eLicenses; two LDX 82 Première HDR advanced imaging cameras with Vislink wireless transmission; fourteen LDX 80 Première cameras with 3G Triax transmission; and two LDX C80 Compact Première cameras.

Studio Berlin will also upgrade its production switchers by replacing the XtenDD and Kayak-HD systems with six new 5M/E 3G and 4K UHD Karrera K-Frame switchers; a 4 M/E HD Kayenne K frame; two 4 M/E HD Karrera K-Frame units and two 2 M/E HD Karrera K-Frame S mixers.

Furthermore, the German systems integrator Broadcast Solutions is building a new UHD mobile unit with 19 cameras whose design is based on Broadcast Solutions' successful S16 Streamline series and has therefore ordered the Grass Valley 4K UHD K-Frame switcher whose resources are shared between a Karrera main panel and a GV Korona sub-panel. The mobile unit will be displayed during the upcoming IBC 2017 at the Broadcast Solutions outdoor stand (O.E02) at the RAI Center in Amsterdam.

Matthias Alexandru, Technical Director at Studio Berlin comments: "We chose Grass Valley's live production solution to improve the quality of our productions. The new cameras provide next-generation image quality and production flexibility. We can now provide native 1080p or 4K HDR acquisition in SMPTE 2084 (PQ) and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) formats. And thanks to Grass Valley's GV-eLicensing model, we can now count on up to 23 XtremeSpeed cameras (6X super slow) if necessary. Additionally, we wanted a large-scale production switcher with the highest 4K I/O count available, and that provides the greatest flexibility with fewer limitations when working in 4K UHD. We appreciate Grass Valley's customer-oriented approach and look forward to expanding our mutual cooperation with their talented technical team, as well as our systems integrator Broadcast Solutions.”

Studio Berlin will use the new equipment for talk show, event, sports and entertainment productions such as The Voice of Germany y Voice Kids.
