Movistar and Disney join forces to offer the best entertainment
On December 22, Movistar Disney will be launched, a new brand that will feature content from Disney and Disney Pixar, forming an exclusive part of the permanent Movistar+ catalog.
Movistar y Disney have signed a strategic alliance that will add value and differentiation to Movistar's television content offering.
This pioneering agreement between two leading brands in the entertainment industry, which was presented today by Luis Miguel Gilpérez, president of Telefónica Spain; Simón Amselem, CEO of The Walt Disney Company for Spain and Portugal, and Fernando Jerez, director of #0 and entertainment content at Movistar+, will allow the launch of Movistar Disney, a new brand that will begin broadcasting on December 22 and will feature content from Disney and Disney Pixar, forming an exclusive part of the permanent catalog of Movistar+.
"With this alliance that we present today we renew our agreement with Disney, a leading international company in the creation of quality content. Thanks to this union we will continue to bring Disney content closer to our customers, thus building the television model that the user demands. The best entertainment is already in a single galaxy: Movistar", stated Luis Miguel Gilpérez, president of Telefónica Spain, during the presentation held today.
Simon Amselem, CEO of The Walt Disney Company for Spain and Portugal, has maintained that "at Disney we are committed to technology, innovation and creativity and that is why we consider Movistar a key partner to bring all our content to the Spanish public. It is the first time in our market that a single platform, in the linear and non-linear environment, will have so much Disney content. Movistar will be one of the few operators in the world that will put the Disney seal on its own channel."
In this way, Movistar Disney becomes the second channel in the world to associate the Disney brand with a pay television platform after the Sky Movies Disney channel in the United Kingdom. The new television channel will offer on Movistar+ (dial 31) 24 hours of all the magic of Disney: recent hits such as Frozen: the kingdom of gall, classic films such as The Lion King or Fantasia, titles from the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, live-action adaptations of classics such as Maleficent, as well as short films and extra content from the Disney catalogue.
Fernando Jerez, director of #0 and entertainment content at Movistar+, has assured that "Movistar+'s commitment to cinema is unique in the Spanish market: We have more than 400 premiere films per year, titles that have achieved 95% of the collection in cinemas in Spain. Movistar Disney comes to complete our family of channels, where cinema accounts for almost half of consumption (47%). With this launch we become the best platform to enjoy Disney entertainment, offering exclusive content for our clients.”
Themed events
Movistar Disney will also have themed programming events linked to Disney news in the Spanish market. Furthermore, coinciding with the December 15 theatrical release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Movistar and Disney are once again partnering with the aim of bringing the Star Wars universe closer to Movistar customers (renewing the collaboration agreement they reached in 2015). This alliance will materialize in the development of different actions. On the one hand, Movistar+ and Disney will offer a large part of the saga thanks to the Movistar Star Wars pop-up channel. From the 1st to the 17th of that month, the channel will be available in the family package, both in Spanish and in the original version with subtitles. Thus, Movistar+ will offer viewers a unique reference place where they can find the best Star Wars content 24 hours a day.
In addition, Movistar has created an original spot to mark the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi through the sports ambassadors of the Movistar teams such as the 10-time kite surfing world champion Gisela Pulido, the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team rider Maverick Viñales or the Spanish Soccer Team.
Likewise, starting November 20, more than 500 Movistar stores will have the most notable Star Wars characters: the last Jedi in their windows. Inside, the experience will go further as you will be able to interact with characters from the saga, dress up as Princess Leia or a Jedi, as well as take the official poster of the film. Through the most impressive app in the galaxy, exclusive content, official videos, sound fragments and voices will be offered. As a culmination of these activities linked to the arrival of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, at the Flagship Store in Madrid, located on Gran Vía, from December 15 to January 5, 2018, an exhibition will be set up consisting of life-size and scale replicas of characters from the saga, and there will be activities for all ages, virtual reality experiences and interactive showcases, among other actions.
