The NEM Summit, which celebrates its tenth anniversary, will be held for the first time in Madrid on November 29 and 30, 2017 in the Nouvel Building of the Reina Sofía Museum.
This summit is organized by NEM Initiative (New European Media Initiative), a technological debate platform promoted under the Seventh Framework Programme, with the aim of promoting convergence between consumer electronics, broadcasting and telecommunications to develop the emerging business sector of electronic and networked media. To respond to the new needs and requirements of the Horizon 2020 programme, the NEM initiative expanded its focus towards the creative industries and changed its name from the Networked Electronic Media Initiative to the New European Media, which is about interactive, convergent and interactive media and creative industries, driving the future of digital experience.
Among the topics that will be addressed at this meeting are the challenges of the creative and cultural industries, the roadmap from now to 2025, the impact on the future of social networks, the vision of the European Commission regarding the future of the media, how to combat the phenomenon of fake news, the development of virtual and augmented reality, new immersive audio systems or the accessibility and personalization of multimedia content.
NEM Sunnit 2017 aims to discuss accessibility as a prerequisite for receiving EU funding and how it becomes a main driver for the personalization of multimedia content and individual experiences. Professionals such as Carla Zaldua, Petter Bae or Gian Maria Greco will talk about the opportunities provided by new technologies to personalize services according to the preferences of users who require greater awareness. Thus ensuring that EU instruments provide adequate support to promote access across Europe, supporting media industries to develop a digital single market from which everyone can benefit.
In addition, the tenth edition of the NEM Summit will begin with the organization's General Assembly and with the presentation of the European calls for Horizon 2020. The celebration of the event will coincide with the publication of the new European calls 2018-2020. Representatives of the Commission will present the opportunities that this program offers for professionals from the broad ecosystem of Cultural and Creative Industries and will discuss the contents with attendees.
The NEM platform is a community that brings together more than 1,000 partners from 94 countries, large companies, SMEs, researchers, universities, cultural institutions and public entities that brings together every year around 300 professionals from industry, research and public administration related to digital creative industries to debate and define the future of the sector. Madrid has been selected among several European cities to celebrate this prestigious and cutting-edge annual event. Previous editions of the NEM Summit were held in cities such as Brussels, Frankfurt, Istanbul, or Turin.
