The Secretary of State for the Information Society and the Digital Agenda, José María Lassalle, has announced the launch of the National 5G Observatory inside the Mobile World Capital Foundation with the aim of continuing to promote activities to promote and develop companies and startups in the technological field. This center will have a initial budget of one million euros.

The Secretary of State has specified that the observatory will have shared headquarters at the Mobile World Capital Foundation facilities in Barcelona and Madrid and will produce studies and reports related to 5G technology, will encourage public-private collaboration and the research sector, will promote entrepreneurship and internationalization and will have a special sensitivity to Latin America. In addition, from this center, training and training in 5G technologies will be promoted through conferences, online courses and workshops.

The Secretary of State made this announcement during the press conference that was held in Barcelona to present the institutional activities around the Mobile World Congress. Also participating in the presentation were the mayor of Barcelona, ​​Ada Colau, the general secretary of the Department of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pau Villoria, the general director of Fira de Barcelona, ​​Constantí Serrallonga and the general director of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation, Carlos Grau, organizers of one of the main fairs in the mobile telephone sector in the world.

The Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, through Red.es and the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), will be present in various forums organized within the framework of this international event, which will be held in Barcelona from February 26 to March 1.

Spain at the Mobile World Congress

In this edition of the Mobile World Congress, the Spain's pavilion will have a space of 810 meters squares that will host 56 companies; 50 of them will have their own stand and another six will have a visit pack that will allow them to enjoy all the advantages of being present in these facilities.

In parallel to the Mobile World Congress, the fair will be held to startups Four Years from Now (4YFN). The Spanish pavilion at this event, organized by Red.Es together with the ICEX, will host 32 companies from key technological sectors; Of these companies, five are cybersecurity startups from the INCIBE acceleration program.

Digital Agenda and Latin America

This year, within the framework of the Mobile World Congress, the Secretary of State for Digital Agenda will sponsor the first meeting with Latin American ministers in the field of the Digital Agenda.

The objective of this meeting is to sign the Ibero-American Charter for the Development of the Digital Ecosystem, a document that lays the necessary foundations to facilitate an exchange of knowledge about technological challenges, public policies and facilitates alliance and cooperation formulas.

At this meeting, current technological issues will be addressed, such as smart territories, the promotion of Spanish and Portuguese through language technologies, and digital rights and gender gaps.
