Nearly 4,000 spectators enjoy the eleventh edition of the Goya Awards Traveling Film Series
In this call, which concluded last Saturday in Vilanova i la Geltrú, the Gas Natural Fenosa Itinerant Cinema Series has continued to bring Spanish cinema and its protagonists closer to the public.
The Gas Natural Fenosa Itinerant Cinema Series, promoted by Gas Natural Fenosa and the Film Academy, visited ten cities in our geography from January 12 to February 24, where more than 3,700 moviegoers filled theaters, cultural centers and auditoriums. On this route of the 32nd edition of the Goya Awards, the public has shown its interest in Spanish cinema and the faces that make it possible, thus fulfilling the objective of this initiative of bringing our seventh art closer to viewers with the help of its protagonists.
The nominated and winning feature films at the 32nd Edition of the Goya Awards traveled accompanied by their directors and performers. Eneko Sagardoy, Goya for Best New Actor, was in charge of opening the cycle in Illescas with the winner of 10 Goyas, big; and drama gave way to humor in Ponferrada with Abracadabra and Pablo Berger. Taking over was the winner of the Goya for Best New Actress, Bruna Cusí, who traveled to Irún with Summer 1993. Terror closed January in Arteixo, with Paco Plaza and Sandra Escacena, who presented Veronica.
After the big night of Spanish cinema, new screenings arrived in February. Gracia Olayo filled the Cine Regio in Sant Antoni de Portmany with The call and he did a double with this musical comedy in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Enrique Gato brought animation to Orihuela with Tadeo Jones 2. The secret of King Midas (Goya for Best Animated Film); and Antonio de la Torre hypnotized the Gran Teatro de Huelva with Abracadabra.
Winner of the Goya for Best Supporting Actress, Adelfa Calvo was the protagonist in Castrillón with The author and Joseba Usabiaga was in charge of putting the finishing touch to this Cycle in Vilanova i la Geltrú with big, the film with the most Goya Awards in the last call.
The directors and performers have had the opportunity to “speak with the viewers face to face,” in the words of Enrique Gato, in the presentations and discussions that accompanied the screenings. "It is a great opportunity for people to see the films and talk to people related to the films. It is a way to get closer to the ins and outs of cinema," said Antonio de la Torre, while Pablo Berger stated that "there is nothing a director likes more than contact with the public."
Convinced that “it is great to bring cinema to places where there are no theaters” and of the importance of the connection with the viewer, Paco Plaza and Sandra Escacena have joined this initiative. For her part, Gracia Olayo has assured that “as I have been a traveling theater artist, now I am becoming a traveling filmmaker” and Bruna Cusí has highlighted that “it is a pleasure to see so many people filling the theater to see our cinema.”
In collaboration with the different town councils of the towns where the Cycle has visited, Gas Natural Fenosa and the Film Academy have contributed, once again, to bringing Spanish cinema, on the big screen and free of charge to various corners of our country. With this call, the Cycle has already reached more than 52,500 spectators from 85 Spanish cities, since July 2013.
