The XIII Festivalito de La Palma floods the island with cinema, stars, theater, gastronomy and good humor

The Palma festival starts full of new features and is ready to turn La Palma into a great film set in an edition that features filmmakers from more than eight different nationalities.

The XIII Festivalito La Palma – Festival of the Stars Between May 18 and 26, it will flood La Palma with cinema, stars, theater, gastronomy and good humor. An unmissable event with the seventh art that once again starts this year full of new features and ready to turn La Palma into a great film set and to conquer residents and visitors with the good atmosphere that surrounds this Festival, unique in the world and which, in this edition, has filmmakers of more than eight different nationalities.

The starting signal for the thirteenth edition will take place today, Friday, May 18, starting at 9:00 p.m., in Los Llanos de Aridane with an opening ceremony that includes a fair of tapas and pinchos themed in honor of the stars of the Universe and those of cinema, the G-Astrocine, in which restaurants such as Duende del Fuego, Pepper Mexican Food, VegaArt Natural Food and Dadá participate.

G-Astrocine, which will last until Saturday the 19th, is a parallel activity to the Festivalito that is part of Astrofest, the festival organized by the Tourism Service of the Island Council of La Palma, and which aims to enhance the character of La Palma as an “island of stars” through activities, meetings, seminars and talks, among others.

On this stellar and premiere night, one of the great classics of the Festivalito will not be missing, the projections, although this time in a modality that fuses celluloid with music. Under the laurels of the Plaza de España in Los Llanos, filmmakers, fans and film lovers will enjoy the big screen of trip to the moon by George Meliés, while Mireya Hernández performs her musical repertoire on the piano.

In this way, starting at 9:45 p.m. the film concert will begin, with a duration of approximately 15 minutes, which will offer the public the opportunity to contemplate one of the great productions in the history of cinema, whose origins date back a century and is currently considered the first science fiction film.

At 10:00 p.m., the creative team of La Perezosa, formed by Chago Rodríguez, Edurado Pérez and Nayra Ortega, will awaken more than just smiles among the attendees thanks to the theatrical comic monologue Oh! If the clitoris could talk... It would take you to the stars!. An interpretation that, without a doubt, will not leave anyone indifferent and that, under the starry sky of La Palma, and in a humorous tone, will make an open invitation to “less complain and more rub oneself”, one of the great mottos of this explosion of creativity and fun.

The end of the party will be led by Pimientas Selectoras, a group of women addicted to vinyl who, starting at 11:00 p.m., will set the pace for tonight, in which the official motto of the XIII Festivalito La Palma will be announced and which will serve as a source of inspiration for the hundreds of filmmakers gathered on the Island throughout the week.

The person responsible for breaking the news to the filmmakers will be Pedro Álvarez, doctor in Astrophysics, who has been in charge of the Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC) since 1994, and is currently a representative of the Starlight Foundation at the astrotourism product table at the Cabildo of La Palma.

All this under the stars and with blues, rock and roll and indie music, punk rock, pshycobilly, rap metal, garage, stoner rock, funk, soul, surf, grunge, hip hop, flam, heavy metal, dub, ska and even a little bit of cumbia.

The inauguration will feature the participation of the Ministers of Culture and Tourism of the Island Council of La Palma, Primitivo Jerónimo and Alicia Vanoostende, the president of the Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Christian Méndez Benedetti, the Councilor for Culture of the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council, Charo González Palmero, and the director of the Festivalito La Palma-Festival de Las Estrellas, José Víctor Fuentes.

The Festivalito La Palma – Film Festival of the Stars is an initiative launched by the Canarian production company Chukumi Studio. Its main promoter and main sponsor is the Cabildo of La Palma, through the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage, the Department of Tourism and the Astrofest.
