'Times of War' will receive the award for the best series of historical content at the La Laguna International Historical Film Festival
The original Atresmedia series produced in collaboration with Bambú Producciones is based on a plot devised by Ramón Campos, Teresa Fernández-Valdés and Gema R. Neira.
He La Laguna International Historical Film Festival (WHISTLE) will award, in its third edition, the award for the best series of historical content to Wartime, original de Atresmedia Television and produced in collaboration with Bamboo Productions. The series, broadcast on Antena 3 in the last quarter of 2017, has become one of the great revelations of the audiovisual panorama thanks to the splendid union between history and fiction.
The War in Morocco of 1921 is the central axis of production, from which the story of the nurses that Queen Victoria Eugenia sent to Melilla to open a field hospital and care for the soldiers is told. The series tells the comings and goings of the characters without losing sight, at any time, of the weight of the story. That is why FICHLA 2018 wanted to recognize the efforts of its creators.
A plot devised by Ramón Campos, Teresa Fernández-Valdés, executive producers of Bambú Producciones; and by Gema R. Neira, its project development director and with more than 15 years of experience as a screenwriter.
In addition, Wartime, has had Cristina Gil as delegate producer of Atresmedia series content, and since 2011 she has been part of the team specialized in fiction for the group.
The award ceremony will take place on November 3 at the Teatro Leal in Laguna, an event that will be attended by the creators of this series with Canarian air, since some of its episodes have been filmed in Tenerife. In addition, it has among its cast one of the most recognized actors currently, Alex García, who will also attend the reception of this award. The Tenerife native plays Fidel Calderón in the series, an army captain and doctor, whose somewhat rebellious personality makes him the protagonist of more than one disagreement with the high military commanders.
The main cast is completed by actors of the stature of José Sacristán, Alicia Borrachero, Amaia Salamanca and Verónica Sánchez, among others.
Bambú Producciones has not hesitated to use history as inspiration for its works, as it has already done with series such as Spain o Imperium and can boast, together with Atresmedia, which continues to invest heavily in this type of content, of signing several of the most successful series in our country and most valued internationally in recent years, such as Great Hotel y Velvet, among others.
war times was positioned among the most viewed fiction series on Antena 3 TV of the last year and ended in December with an average of 2,383,000 viewers and 15.5% of the screen share, exceeding the average audience of the network last year by more than three points.
Historical Cinema in La Laguna
Fichla will celebrate its third edition from October 31 to November 4 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife), and will do so by recovering two competitive sections, one for feature films and another for documentaries. Under the generic title Witness to History 2018, the winners of each of them will be eligible for a prize of 1,000 euros. The registration period for participants in the Festival will close on September 30. A total of six productions will be selected per category. Films that have not been released in Spain in public theaters or on television may be presented.
The opening of the Festival will take place in the Auditorium of the University of La Laguna (ULL), where the activities of the retrospective part will also take place. The Time Machine, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King. The Aguere Cultural Space and Module A of the ULL Faculty of Education will be other venues for the event, where the screenings of the competitive sections will take place.
Fichla is an event that revolves around history with the intention of promoting the cultural participation of citizens in a unique enclave such as San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a historic Canarian city that has a long university tradition. An exceptional place for its architecture, for its consideration as a World Heritage Site and for the cultural involvement of its people.
The Laguna International Historical Film Festival is organized by Festeam Comunicación y Eventos, thanks to the sponsorship of the San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council, through the Department of Culture, and the Government of the Canary Islands through the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage.
