The Quirino Awards for Ibero-American animation open the call for their second edition
Registration for these awards that recognize Ibero-American animation in nine categories will be open until December 8.
Los Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation have opened their call for the various categories of their second edition, which will be held on April 6, 2019 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain).
The initiative, which for the second consecutive year seeks to value the talent and the Ibero-American animation industry, receives animated works from the 23 countries in the region que hayan sido estrenados entre el 1 de enero de 2018 y el 31 de diciembre de 2018.
Works whose original language of expression is mostly Spanish, Portuguese or other non-hegemonic languages spoken in the Ibero-American region may be submitted to the call; and works by Ibero-American production companies that are made directly in other languages may also participate. The works must be submitted through the Festhome platform before December 8 at 11:59 p.m. (Mexico time).
From among all the nominated works, there will be six nominees per category, which will be announced at the beginning of 2019. From among those selected, an international jury will choose three finalists in each category, who will be the ones who will compete for the recognitions that will be awarded on April 6 in Tenerife.
In 2018, the Mexican feature film Ana and Bruno by Carlos Carrera, the series The smallest man in the world by the Argentinian Juan Pablo Zaramella and the Spanish short Decorated by Alberto Vázquez were the works recognized in the main categories.
These awards are named in honor of the creator of the first animated feature film in history, the Italian-Argentine Quirino Cristiani, who in 1917 directed The Apostle; an Argentine production in which 58,000 drawings made by hand and shot in 35 mm were used, in addition to several models representing public buildings and the streets of the city of Buenos Aires.
