In total, 54 works from ten countries have been nominated in the nine categories of the Quirino Animation Awards. Spain and Mexico are the most represented countries, with 21 and 12 nominations, respectively.

Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation

Los Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation revealed the nominated works in the nine categories of its first edition, which It will be held on April 7 on the island of Tenerife (Spain).

The Quirino awards take their name from tribute to the creator of the first feature film
story animation, the Italian-Argentine Quirino Cristiani, who in 1917 directed He

The selection for this first edition of the Quirino Awards has been made by the Frenchman Loïc Portier, the Irishman Barry O'Donoghue, the Polish Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron and the Spanish Paco Rodríguez and Zulay Rodríguez; reflects the diversity of works produced in the Ibero-American space, combining works by established filmmakers with works by new talents.

The list includes the latest films by animation directors such as Carlos Carrera, Luis Téllez, Sofía Carrillo, Enrique Gato, Juan Pablo Zaramella or Marc Riba and Anna Solanas, among others.

Likewise, it highlights the plurality of countries represented, a total of ten (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay), led by Spain (21 nominations), Mexico (12) and Brazil (6). Two works share the leadership with the highest number of nominations (4): the shorts Path of the Giants by Alois di Leo (Brazil) and Cerulean by Sofía Carrillo (Mexico).

The 54 nominated works will be evaluated by an international jury, which will select three finalist works in each category. The list of finalists will be published in February.

The six feature films that aspire to the Quirino Award are Mexican ones Ana and Bruno y The angel in the clock; the spanish Deep y Tadeo Jones 2: the secret of King Midas; the Colombian-Uruguayan Lila's book and the Peruvian Condorito, the movie. For its part, the nominated series are the Mexican The legends, the Chilean Puerto Papel (made in co-production with Brazil, Colombia and Argentina), the Argentine-French The smallest man in the world, the Spanish Pocoyo (4th season) and two co-productions between Colombia and Spain: old people's stories (3rd season) and Affecting displays. Coproduction Forum

On the other hand, the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation keep the calls open to participate in the Co-production Forum and the International Congress, the two professional activities that will take place on April 6 and 7.

The call for the Coproduction Forum, aimed at Ibero-American companies, production companies or television channels or with interest in Ibero-America, is open until January 25. The meeting will bring together professionals from the region in B2B meetings, work tables and presentations of the state of the industry in different territories.

The International Congress, which seeks to spark interdisciplinary exchange between academia and the profession around animation and technology, receives proposals until January 24. The event will have the special participation of the animation historian, teacher and writer Giannalberto Bendazzi, who will offer the inaugural conference on April 6.
