The Film Academy adds a new specialty to the fourteen that it had and that represent the different departments of cinema. On October 9, the Board of Directors of the institution approved the modifications to the Internal Regulations, which establish the requirements to request admission as a full member of the documentary specialty.

Starting today, November 19, members who currently belong to any of the fourteen existing specialties may request a change to this specialty, as long as they meet the requirements established in each of them, in terms of the number of documentary films.

In the case of the Editing and Production Management specialties, academics who wish to change to the Documentary specialty and new members who enter as editors or production directors must have made a minimum of two feature-length documentaries, released in commercial theaters, in whose credit titles their status as production director or editor is recognized.

In all cases, requests, both for change of specialty and for new admission, must be approved by the Board of Directors.

The representation of the Documentary in this body, which has two members for each specialty, will not become effective until the specialty has a minimum of 25 members with the right to vote and be voted for in the Specialty Commission and Board of Directors Elections. If within a period of one year there is not that number that would allow elections to be called, the specialty could be rejected. However, the Board of Directors may agree to a moratorium to facilitate reaching 25 members.

With the incorporation of the documentary section, there are fifteen specialties that the Film Academy has: production, script, direction, acting, photography direction, artistic direction, costume design, makeup and hairdressing, music, editing, special effects, animation, sound, production direction and the aforementioned documentary.
