Hispasat and the Gran Teatre del Liceu sign a collaboration agreement for the transmission of operas via satellite
The operator will support the Audiovisual Project of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation by transferring space capacity for the live broadcast of four shows.
The Spanish telecommunications satellite operator, Hispasat, and the Foundation of the Gran Teatre del Liceu have signed today in Madrid a collaboration agreement for the live and satellite broadcast of four operas, both nationally and internationally. These broadcasts are part of the theater's Audiovisual Project, focused on the promotion and promotion of operatic culture.
The president of Hispasat attended the signing ceremony this morning, Elena Pisonero, and the president of the board of trustees of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Salvador Alemany. For the president of the Spanish operator, "this agreement reaffirms Hispasat's commitment to the promotion of culture. Our satellites are configured as the ideal technological infrastructure for this type of projects, because it is the most efficient to transmit a live event to any point within its coverage with the highest image and sound quality. We are proud to collaborate with the Liceu in the dissemination of its shows and thus bring the art of opera to a greater number of citizens."
For his part, Salvador Alemany highlighted that "in 2001, the Gran Teatre del Liceu was one of the first institutions in the world to start a live opera project. Since then our will has been to seek the strongest alliances to continue developing a reference audiovisual project that continues to position the Liceu on the international scene. The formalization today of this agreement with HISPASAT is key to consolidating an initiative that opens borders and further democratizes the opera genre."
Through this agreement, the Gran Teatre del Liceu will offer three operas from the next season via satellite: L'Italiana in Algiers, by Gioachino Rossini, (December 18, 2018) and The Mona Lisa, by Amilcare Ponchielli, (April 7, 2019), which will be broadcast live to theaters around the world; and Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, (June 28, 2019), which is included in the program of the High school a la fresca, a project to take opera to the streets so that as many people as possible can enjoy this show. The agreement also includes the transmission of Manon Lescaut, by Giacomo Puccini, within the framework of this same program, already made on June 16.
The agreement is part of Hispasat's Corporate Social Responsibility policy and its commitment to supporting the cultural dissemination of Spanish institutions. With this collaboration, Hispasat facilitates the opening of the Liceu to the outside, allowing its stage to extend beyond the walls of the theater to reach other audiences in different places in Spain and the world. In this way, the theater's artistic offering benefits from satellite technology to overcome physical barriers and bring opera to other environments, making it accessible to a much larger number of spectators.
