Mediapro wins the Qatar 2022 World Cup in Spain
It will create a channel in Spain with 24/7 programming dedicated to the Soccer World Cup in 2022. The agreement with Mediapro also includes the allocation of the 2019 Women's World Cup and other FIFA events.
FIFA has awarded Mediapro World Cup rights of 2022 that will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, a calendar change that places the competition in a period of high television consumption.
The dispute of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar during the months of November and December will be a before and after in the history of the World Cups. The calendar ensures greater monitoring and television impact coinciding with a general stoppage of the national leagues, the first in the history of football, with all the attention of football fans focused on the Qatar competition.
Mediapro will guarantee the best and most complete coverage of one of the largest sporting events with the highest television audience in the world with the creation of a channel in Spain dedicated to 24/7 monitoring of the World Cup. In addition to broadcasting the tournament matches, the channel will offer versatile programming with analysis and current affairs programs, interviews, training sessions and press conferences or historical matches.
The agreement with FIFA also includes the awarding of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup rights which will be held this summer (June-July) in France, in line with the Group's strategic commitment to the promotion and development of women's football and the visibility of its different competitions. The Spanish team was placed in group B along with Germany, China and South Africa.
In addition, it also includes the acquisition of the broadcasting rights for other FIFA events included in the 2019-2022 cycle, including the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland (May-June 2019), FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru (October 2019), FIFA World Cup Paraguay beach soccer (November 2019) and FIFA Futsal World Cup from Lithuania (September-October 2020).
