TVU Networks this collaborating with the Korean operator KT to carry the first UHD streaming over your 5G enterprise network.
KT, formerly known as Korea Telecom, introduced the first 5G services test in the world during the Winter Olympic Games PyeongChang in February 2018. KT also broadcast live the last concert of the K-pop group Wanna One on its IPTV service, Olleh TV, earlier this year. The transmission was carried out through decoders and mobile devices using the 5G network. KT is expected to launch full-scale marketing of the network in April.
This collaboration marks an important step in TVU Networks' commitment to 5G technology. The company has been at the forefront of 5G from the beginning, with its product line of 5G-compatible transmitters, and continually collaborates with regional providers around the world in their 5G deployment efforts, seeking to implement that technology within their video over IP solutions.
Paul Shen, CEO of TVU Networks, comments that "video is now what most people watch on their smartphones, but taking the quality of services offered and the accessibility of video to the next level requires the low latency, high speed and ultra-connectivity that 5G provides. The backbone of the 5G network fits perfectly with our ability to acquire, manage and deliver the best 4K video over IP."
TVU Networks will work closely with KT to provide 4K UHD streaming technology and services that meet KT's 5G device standards. KT will provide technical support such as device standards and a testing environment.
Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), one of Korea's top three broadcasting companies, is working with KT to develop the broadcasting capabilities of this new 5G network. SBS is a client of TVU Networks and introduced TVU Networks capabilities to KT. Assisting SBS in these efforts is TVU Network's Seoul-based distributor iCRAFT.
Park Hyun-Jin, senior vice president of KT's 5G business unit, is convinced that "5G networks will be critical in providing our customers with an optimal mobile video experience. The data capacity, speed and low latency of the network will allow unprecedented innovations. We know that TVU Networks is the ideal partner to take the next step in the evolution of our company."
