Álex de la Iglesia begins filming '30 Coins', an HBO original series
The eight-episode series is a Pokeepsie Films production for HBO Europe, a platform that will release it simultaneously in all HBO Europe territories.
The actors Eduard Fernández (Padre Vergara), Macarena Gómez (Merche), Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Paco) and Megan Montaner (Elena) will be in charge of giving life to the four protagonists of 30 coins, the new series of Alex de la Iglesia to HBO Spain.
Manolo Solo and Pepón Nieto will also be part of the large cast of supporting actors in this epic horror series.
The Bilbao director co-writes with Jorge Guerricaechevarría the eight chapters of the series, which will be produced by Pokeepsie Films.
The series will begin filming next week and will include locations in Pedraza (Segovia), Madrid, Salamanca, Rome and Jerusalem.
Horror, adventure, action, monsters, religion... all the obsessions of Álex de la Iglesia's particular universe will be captured in eight one-hour chapters in which the Basque director will pour all his imagination and his mastery of the genre.
30 coins It is a production of Pokeepsie Movies for HBO Europe. Its launch will be simultaneous in all HBO Europe territories.
Executive producers for HBO Europe are Miguel Salvat, Steve Matthews and Antony Root.
HBO Europe currently has several projects in production in several European countries: Patria in Spain, Gösta and Beartown in Sweden, Beforeigners in Norway and The Sleepers in the Czech Republic.
Exorcist, boxer and ex-convict
30 coins is the tragedy of Father Vergara, an exorcist, boxer and ex-convict exiled in a parish in a remote town in Spain. He wants to forget and be forgotten, but his enemies will find him very soon...
When Vergara is linked to a series of paranormal phenomena that have occurred in the town, Paco, the naive mayor, and Elena, a restless veterinarian, will try to reveal the secrets of their past and the meaning of the ancient coin that Vergara keeps hidden. Little by little, this unusual trio of heroes will find themselves immersed in a global conspiracy: the battle for control of the thirty coins for which the apostle Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus of Nazareth, cursed relics but possessing unimaginable power. A conspiracy that will reach the very heart of the Vatican and threaten the established world order.
