Canal+ has reached an agreement with the venture capital fund Astrog to buy your rival M7 for something more than 1 billion euros expanding the presence of Vivendi's television company to seven new European markets: Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Romania.

M7, based in Luxembourg, is an aggregator and distributor of local and international channels via satellite and OTT platforms, with more than 3 million subscribers across Europe. Its annual income amounts to around 400 million euros.

M7's content partners include companies such as Disney Channel, HBO and Eurosport and operates under several brands, including Skylink, HD Austria and TV Vlaanderen in Belgium.

The operation, which is subject to approval by the European Commission, would mean that Canal Plus' base would reach 20 million subscribers throughout Europe, which would bring its number of markets to nine, including Poland, Switzerland and France.

Finally, it should be noted that Netflix surpassed Canal+ as the main pay television provider in France earlier this year, announcing that it had surpassed 5 million subscribers. Canal+ has seen its subscriber base in its domestic market fall to 4.74 million at the end of 2018.
