Cellnex Telecom y BT have signed a strategic agreement long-term collaboration, through which Cellnex has obtained the rights to operation and marketing of 220 towers of high-altitude telecommunications located throughout the territory of the United Kingdom. Cellnex increases the sites it will manage in the United Kingdom by almost 40%.

The Spanish operator will assume the existing service contracts for these sites and both companies will share the additional income that Cellnex is expected to generate from their management. Cellnex and BT have committed to exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the UK telecommunications market.

Àlex Mestre, general director of global business at Cellnex, stated that "the agreement signed today sets the path for future long-term cooperation between Cellnex and BT. Both companies are committed to exploring joint projects and cooperating in areas that will be key in the deployment of 5G."

"For Cellnex, this agreement is a very significant first step in the United Kingdom, after our recent acquisitions of 10,700 Iliad and Salt sites, and the solid results presented in the first quarter. This agreement demonstrates the Company's commitment and confidence in the British market, in which we hope to continue exploring new opportunities in the United Kingdom," adds Mestre.

For his part, Alex Tempest, director of wholesale business at BT, said: “We are delighted to be working with Cellnex to help bring a more flexible approach to the telecommunications site sharing market in the United Kingdom. BT and its mobile operator EE (Everything Everywhere) have recently 'turned on' the first 5G network in the United Kingdom in six cities, and as the rollout of 5G progresses agreements such as the one reached with Cellnex will be an important part of bringing the benefits of this new technology to as many parts of the UK as possible.”
