OFCOM estimates that, at most, 10% of British households will need to supplement their reception equipment to ensure TV signal quality when 4G services are operational.

AT800 is the trademark of Digital Mobile Services Limited (DMSL), the organization responsible for ensuring that British viewers will continue to receive the DTT signal in perfect condition once 4G mobile services are launched later this year, using the 800 MHz band.

OFCOM, the independent regulator and competition authority for the British communications industry, has estimated that a maximum of 10% of British households will need to supplement their reception equipment to ensure TV signal quality when 4G services are operational. These homes will receive an AT800 filter completely free of charge, to add to their receiving equipment before interference problems can occur.

To be the winner of the contest to supply filters to at800, Televes UK has asserted the quality of its product, specifically designed for the purpose pursued, and its manufacturing capacity, since a high demand must be met in a short period of time.

“For our subsidiary, the awarding of the DMSL contract represents a very important milestone, since it introduces and positions us in the business of fourth-generation mobile telephone operators and identifies us as relevant agents both in the evolution of DTT and in the transition to 4G in the United Kingdom,” said Guillermo Fernández, managing director of Televes UK.

Fernández has also highlighted that the award has been the result of work in which all the company's departments have been involved, which highlighted the great qualities of Televés: innovation, quality, proximity to the market and manufacturing capacity. “Being a highly integrated company has allowed us to provide a complete solution, from design to manufacturing and logistics,” he concluded.

Likewise, RF filters will represent the evolution of Televes UK in the retail market, with the incipient launch of this web, in which information about this process is offered to the end user, as well as the possibility of purchasing additional filters online. "We understand that part of our responsibility as actors in this scenario includes providing information about the process to the end user. In addition, many of the homes in areas of possible interference have more than one television and, therefore, will need more than one filter to guarantee good DTT reception," explains Fernández.

The experience in supplying filters in the United Kingdom will place Televés in a privileged position regarding the processes of adapting frequencies in the spectrum for the coexistence of DTT and 4G that will be launched in other European markets.

The coexistence between LTE and DTT

Long Term Evolution (LTE), or 4G, is the technology that allows the capacity of current networks to be expanded so that they can offer data connections with theoretical bandwidths of up to 326 Mbps downstream and 86 Mbps upstream. With these connection speeds, LTE will allow European consumers to get the most out of their mobile devices, enjoying all types of connected services.

To do this, operators have deployed networks that will share the radio space with the rest of the telecommunications services, including digital terrestrial television (DTT).

Due to its power and proximity in the spectrum, in certain circumstances LTE emissions can cause interference in the DTT signal. In this hypothetical situation, television reception would not be in optimal conditions, and could negatively affect the quality of the image and sound received on televisions.

To avoid these interferences and guarantee perfect DTT reception, home equipment must be equipped with specific filters. In this way, access in perfect conditions to all telecommunications services offered by current technologies is guaranteed.
