Azteca will invest five million dollars in eSports projects
Together with Allied Esports, it will launch a 24-hour channel to promote the growth of electronic sports.
The Mexican broadcaster Azteca will invest 5 million dollars in Allied Esports Entertainment. The two groups will join forces to launch a 24-hour eSports channel to promote the growth of electronic sports and gaming in general throughout Mexico. The channel will target a younger audience, but Azteca has experience managing both young and old demographics through its sports content.
Frank Ng, CEO of Allied, states that "in Latin America, traditional television is a very important part of content distribution. It is a very important format, and Azteca is very strong in that, particularly in sports."
Azteca and Allied will also build a network of talented sports analysts, commentators and hosts throughout Latin America and Mexico. This will eventually lead to a specialized sports venue that will host major events, as well as several additional facilities aimed at disseminating and normalizing sports in the Mexican market.
These facilities will aim to be like the HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas, which was the debut of the Allied company in the eSports scene.
Mexico is a growing center of sports competitions with events such as Super Smash Bros. Melee y Ultimate, CS:GO, y League of Legends with solid player bases.
Ng has stated that Allied intends to partner with other partners looking to enter the eSport scene once the entire deal is officially done. The new group also plans to invest more than $100 million over three years to build those locations and expand their reach.
Lyle Berman, director of Black Ridge and future Chairman of the Board of Allied, defends that "with more than 40 years in the gaming and entertainment business, this is the most exciting opportunity I have seen. This transaction will be transformative for our rapidly expanding company and will provide the sports community with a fully capitalized and globally connected sports company, capable of producing the volume and breadth of sports entertainment products that the industry increasingly demands."
This deal will build on Azteca and Allied's last partnership, which resulted in a battle Nation vs. Nation between American and Mexican PUBG players that reached two million unique viewers. Aztec will also have access to the WPT files to be broadcast on its network.
Black Ridge Acquisition announced in December the purchase of eSports entertainment company Allied Esports International and World Poker Tour Enterprises from Ourgame International Holdings Limited. Once the deal is completed, Black Ridge will change its name to Allied Esports Entertainment.
