Average spending on packaged telecommunications services by Spanish households decreased in the fourth quarter of 2018
In the quadruple packages (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband and fixed access) and quintuple packages (the above plus pay TV) a decrease was recorded, as well as in mobile telephony alone.
Homes with telecommunications packaged offers (quadruple and quintuple) experienced a slight decrease in their bills throughout the second half of 2018, according to the latest data from the Household Panel of the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), which focuses on electronic communications services for Spanish homes.
In homes with quad package he Spending decreased by just over one and a half euros in a year until reaching the 51.4 euros monthly and in homes with quintuple package Spending fell by just over half a euro to 78.3 euros per month.
In addition, Spaniards who contract postpaid mobile phone services outside of a packaged offer also spent less.
Regarding the penetration of electronic communications services, at the end of 2018, the decrease in fixed telephony draws attention, which continues to fall (it has dropped 3 points in one year). Pay television went from 33 to 35.6 percent of Spanish homes in one year.
The tendency of Spanish households is to contract packaged offers. 44.8% of homes have broadband, landline and mobile telephony y 32.6% add the pay television service. On the other hand, households that only have telephone services are one in ten (9.7%).
Precisely, the possibility of contracting pay television packaged with other services is the main reason that households give for having it at home. This reason doubles the number of households' interest in sports or series.
Regarding homes with fixed broadband, the technology with the greatest growth is fiber (FTTH) present in almost the 55% of households. The migration of xDSL customers to fiber continues and, in absolute terms, the reduction of the former was 9 percentage points in one year.
