This solution will be used, among others, to cover the Danish football league, Superliga, in HD and 4K/UHD.

GlobalConnectGlobalConnect has deployed Nevion Virtuoso, the software-defined media node, and Nevion VideoIPath, SDN orchestration and control software from Nevion, for remote production and contribution applications. The Danish provider of fiber optic networks, data centers and cloud solutions is using the solution to serve the main media providers of the Danish football league, Superliga, as well as to support remote production of other sports such as handball.

GlobalConnect needed a new solution to replace its existing infrastructure that included both compressed and uncompressed services with a clear path to eventual migration to SMPTE ST 2110. Before implementing the Nevion solution, GlobalConnect transmitted Super League signals using multiple audio, video and network cables from a mobile unit, where today only a 10G fiber connection is used on mobiles.

The new solution includes IM Virtuoso from Nevion is used to encode and transport HD and 4K/UHD signals (using JPEG 2000) in real time from football stadiums. They are also deployed in a total of 6 mobile units across the country to provide host signal to GlobalConnect customers. Nevion VideoIPath manages and orchestrates the network, ensuring in particular load balancing and uptime.

Anders Kuhn Saaby, CTO of GlobalConnect, assures that "we have a long relationship with Nevion during which we have been able to feed product feature requests to fit our needs. As a provider of integrated digital infrastructure, we have a great interest in the development of SDI to IP migration and Nevion has been instrumental in this first phase of migration to an IP environment."

Hans Hasselbach, commercial director of Nevion, highlights that "we have partnered with GlobalConnect since 2012 and have provided a number of solutions in this time, including VideoIPath, where we still hope to introduce more benefits with new features for our mobile and multi-tenant infrastructure components. We look forward to continuing to work with GlobalConnect in the future, as it moves to an IP production environment."
