TVE broadcasts 90% of Spanish cinema on general television
La 1 and La 2 have offered 373 films, 89.7% of those programmed on television. The Corporation has participated in 42 films so far this year.
Spanish Television has made known his support for the Spanish audiovisual industry in it 67th San Sebastian Film Festival, of which it is the official sponsor, in a press conference presented by Elena S. Sánchez attended by the producers and protagonists of the film Bye, which RTVE presented this Thursday at a gala.
The Corporation maintains its commitment to Spanish cinema with its participation in 42 films and 30 documentaries, and with the broadcast on La 1 and La 2 in the last year of almost 90% of the Spanish titles programmed on television (373 films).
For the director of Content, Channels and Production of TVE programs and head of Film and Fiction, Fernando López Puig, "it is an honor and a pride for RTVE to be in this festival and cooperate with Spanish cinema. It is an obligation, but very pleasant. It is a relationship of responsibility in which we work very comfortably. We must continue playing and betting on cinema."
RTVE has participated so far this year in titles among which stand out pain and glory by Pedro Almodóvar, who opts to represent Spain at the Oscars and The infinite trench, the new work by Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and José Mari Goenaga, who already know what it is to win two Golden Shells and who this year are once again in the Official Section of the festival. Also participated by RTVE what burns, by Oliver Laxe, which could be seen in Pearls and won an award at Cannes. Biznaga gold award in Malaga was The days to come, by Carlos Masques-Marcet.
Among the new projects, RTVE participates in the latest and long-awaited work by Javier Fesser Sad Stories, and in those of Benito Zambrano (Lemon Poppy Seed Bread), Manuel Martín Cuenca (the daughter), Dani of the Order (42 seconds), Juanma Bajo Ulloa (Baby) o Cesc Gay (Sentimental).

It also reflects an important presence of cinema directed by women, both by established directors such as Iciar Bollain (Rosa's wedding) or Isabel Coixet (The movie teller) as new creators: Lucía Alemany with The innocence, which has screened at New Directors; Pilar Palomera (The girls) and Liliana Torres (What did we do wrong).
In the movies section animation highlights the new collaboration of two greats, Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal (They shot the piano player), Unicorn Wars, by Goya winner Alberto Vázquez, or Valentina, directed by Chelo Loureiro.
Documentaries
As in recent years, a part of them will be allocated to the programming of Essentials (2019 National Television Award), with personalities such as Arzak, Jorge Herralde, the Canogars, Ana Belén, Tricicle, Lluis Pascual, Manolo Sanlúcar, Menéndez Pidal, Miguel Ríos Raphael, Umbral or Unamuno. RTVE continues to focus on culture and the creation of an audiovisual fund where the most important figures of the 20th and 21st centuries in Spain are present.
In addition to biographies, he will co-produce historical documentaries such as The Spanish Way, Franco's Atomic Secret o Democracy Bikini. It will also pay attention to the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Circumnavigation of the Earth by Magellan and Elcano, with participation in the documentary The longest journey, a parallel narrative about what the trip around the Earth entailed 500 years ago and what the adventure of putting a man on Mars is entailing; either Spherical, a project that narrates from a look at nature, what those men could see and know 5 centuries ago. Spanish cinema showcase
RTVE is the main showcase of Spanish cinema. La 1 and La 2 have been the channels that have programmed the most Spanish films in the last year, with 373 titles, compared to 43 of all private chains combined. In total, La 1 has broadcast 73 and La 2, 300, all of them in prime time. Is almost 90% of Spanish cinema broadcast on general channels in open.
In total, 34.9 million viewers have watched Spanish cinema on TVE at some point in the last year. On La 1, the most followed film has been Murder at the University, tvmovie by Iñaki Peñafiel, with 1.6 million viewers, while The silence of others, by Almudena Carracedo and Rober Bahar has been the most watched on La 2: 951,000 viewers (5.2%).
The cinema participated by RTVE has triumphed throughout this year in different international festivals. Antonio Banderas received the award for best actor at the Cannes festival, for pain and glory, which also collected the award for best original music for Alberto Iglesias.
Pedro Almodóvar's film has also been the film chosen by the Spanish Film Academy to compete to represent our country at the 2020 Oscars. The five nominees will be announced in January. Almodóvar's film has also been shortlisted for the 32nd edition of the European Film Awards, which will be held in December in Berlin.
The Animation Tape Buñuel in the turtle labyrinth, by Salvador Simó and also featured by RTVE, was awarded at the Annecy festival (Jury and Soundtrack) and at the Animation is Film festivals in Los Angeles (USA) and Chilemonos (Chile).
Champions, co-produced by RTVE, with an unsurpassed track record, received the Platinum Award for Cinema and Education in Values. Javier Fesser's film crowned a year of success in February with the Goya for best film. He also triumphed in the Platinum One more day alive, participated by RTVE, as best animated film.
