The president of the Spanish Film Academy replaces Ernesto Contreras in office.

Mariano Barroso has been elected president of the Ibero-American Federation of Film Academies (FIACINE) in a vote by the majority of the members of the Board of Directors during the annual meeting of FIACINE held in Mexico. Replaces in office Ernesto Contreras.

Barroso's intention in this new stage is to “give continuity to the work undertaken since its origin by all members of the Federation, and to continue stimulating the participation of the Academies in initiatives and projects that FIACINE has been developing to promote and disseminate Ibero-American cinematography,” he declared.

The Board of Directors, the executive governing body among the Federated Academies, is constituted, in addition to Mariano Barroso as president of the Federation (rotating, for a period of two years); by María Fernanda Céspedes, general director; a treasurer and a delegate for each Academy (Azucena Rodríguez in Spain).

Promoting gender equality in the audiovisual sector, promoting audiovisual teaching in Ibero-American schools, creating new audiences, facilitating meetings and exchanges between creators and professionals, strengthening links between the Ibero-American film academies that comprise it and betting on the incorporation of new countries are the key objectives of FIACINE to defend the interests of this film industry throughout the world.

FIACINE was established within the framework of the 32nd edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival in March 2017. Verónica Calvo (Argentina), María Fernanda Céspedes (Colombia), Calé Rodríguez (Ecuador), Azucena Rodríguez (Spain), Dolores Heredia (Mexico), Caupolicán Ovalles (Venezuela) and María Jesús Peña (Paraguay) signed the constitution of this association that Today it is made up of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal and Venezuela.
