VRT opts for DaVinci Resolve for post-production
The Belgian broadcaster installs DaVinci Resolve Studio, DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel and Resolve Mini Panels as its in-house system for color correction and finishing across all its original content production.
Belgian public television, VRT, has installed DaVinci Resolve Studio, DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel and Resolve Mini Panels Blackmagic Design as your in-house system for color correction and finishing in all its original content production.
Covering the Flemish region of Belgium, VRT distributes content across three linear television channels and its online platform, and has a mandate to deliver high-quality and entertaining productions that reflect Flemish identity and diversity.
Bart Snoeks, television solutions architect at VP Media Solutions, who advised on the project, comments that "VRT's program production is incredibly varied, from documentaries to lifestyle studio shows, and its post-production team has to work as efficiently as possible. When VRT decided to review its workflow for color correction, we identified that the node structure of DaVinci Resolve would help the team handle complex grades and keep their busy production schedule running smoothly.”
The move to DaVinci Resolve has also seen VRT add an additional grading suite with a Resolve Mini Panel, to complement its primary grading suite, which has been equipped with a DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel.
Bet on 4K
The improved color correction and finishing workflow is also future-proofing its commitment to 4K. VRT broadcasts in HD, although many of its productions are delivered in 4K, especially programming with a longer life cycle. One of the first productions graded with DaVinci Resolve is Tick Tak, a preschool series that was filmed with the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K and is being delivered in 4K.
"Grading in 4K allows VRT to maximize vibrancy and sharpness, exactly what is desired for children's content, but it also means that the show will continue to look fresh for years to come. The workflow between Ursa Mini Pro and Resolve is seamless, and the system also handles more complex format packages - for example, for a studio program like Factcheckers, Resolve handles a range of different camera formats and codecs, as well as archived footage or news clippings, and offers a professional final look,” explains Snoeks.
