The feature debut of director Óscar Martín wins the “Nocturna Madrid Paul Naschy Award for Best Film”, in addition to the “Best Director Award” and the “Vincent Price Award for Best Actor”, which went to David Pareja

“Like Untouchable, but with sons of bitches.” This is how forceful it defines Amigo its director, screenwriter and editor, the Madrid native Oscar Martin, winner yesterday VII Madrid International Night Fantastic Film Festival. This psychological thriller tinged with black comedy and claustrophobic environments won the “Nocturna Madrid Paul Naschy Award for Best Film” last night at the Festival's closing gala at Cinesa Proyecciones, also winning the “Best Director Award” and the “Vincent Price Award for Best Actor” for its protagonist, David Pareja.

"I couldn't be happier to receive this award in my home. I have grown up in Nocturna Madrid and this gives me energy to make more films and show them here with you. It is what motivates us," said Óscar Martín while the audience shouted "movie!" The producer, Elena Muñoz, received the "Best Film Award" from the hands of director Alex Proyas: "17 years ago we founded The Mechanical Eye to produce films like this and we have finally achieved it. Here we are, friends!", she exclaimed exultantly. For his part, actor David Pareja thanked him for his award: “I'm amazed by this, I can't believe it.”

The jury of the Official Fantastic Competition Section - made up of Sergio Morcillo, Albert Galera and Zaher Soufí - also wanted to award a special mention for Best Film to 1BR by American director David Marmor, "for its ability to surprise and entertain in equal measure and transmit social values ​​within the genre."

The other winner of the night was Little Monsters, by Australian filmmaker Abe Fosythe, awarded the “Nocturna Madrid Audience Award”, “Best Screenplay Award”, “Critics' Gold Blogos Award” and “Best Actress Award” for Lupita Nyong'o. A hooligan comedy of flesh-eating zombies, deadly guitar assaults, disembowelment, death metal, gore, mini golf, conga, aliens, and much more.

American production Echoes of Fear de Brian y Laurence Avenet-Bradley received the “Dark Award for Best Film in the Official Dark Visions Competition Section”, with a jury made up of Álex Mendíbil, Óscar Sánchez and Ángel Luis Sucasas. Nocturna Madrid also awarded Johannes Nyholm a special mention for the script of Black Blood, Black Blood “for their bravery and transgression when expressing, with skill and originality, the pain of the loss of a loved one.” The “Nocturna Award for Best Special Effects” went to The Furies by Toni d'Aquino.

“The short film is essential for any festival.” In this way, Sergio Molina introduced the awards for an essential section of the Madrid Nocturna International Fantastic Film Festival. “New filmmakers are the future of our cinematography, which is very important to encourage and support,” he explained.

Meanwhile, one of the jury members, Zaher Soufí, from KBN Next Media, presented Raúl Monge with the “Best National Short Film Award” for Hopes. The “Best International Short Film Award” went to Lay Them Straight, a Canadian production directed by Robert Deleskie.

During the course of the gala, the filmmaker Eugenio Martin, who could not be present for health reasons, received the recognition of the “Nocturna Madrid Honor Award” for his bravery and dedication to his profession, and for being one of the great creators of the genre in Spain. Martín is the director of “one of the best fantasy films in our country, Panic on the Trans-Siberian, in addition to being responsible for another of the jewels of our cinematography such as A candle for the devil o Hypnosis, a film that we have been able to recover on the big screen in this edition,” said Sergio Molina.
