Michael Zink (UHD Alliance) highlights at the 4K-HDR Summit the advantages that Filmmaker Mode will bring

The initiative launched at the end of August aims to establish a framework that allows the viewer to watch any content on their home television with the same quality and references with which it was conceived.

Michael Zink, president of the UHD Alliance, has been announced in the 4K-HDR Summit in Malaga the latest advances in the initiative Filmmaker Mode which launched at the end of August in Los Angeles.

Filmmaker Mode is the result of a collaboration of the UHD Alliance with filmmakers, consumer electronics manufacturers and Hollywood studios to establish a framework that allows the viewer to watch any content on their home television with the same quality and references in terms of color, appearance... with which the audiovisual product was conceived.

The UHD Alliance, which represents the entire ecosystem, maintains continuous contacts with
camera operators, colorists, producers, editors, special effects creators..., to advance the development of Filmmaker Mode.

The objective is that the end user can access the essence of content creation as it was conceived with great ease, dispensing with the typical function activated by default with all kinds of visual “improvements”.

The viewer will be able to enjoy an experience closer to that of the cinema in their home by disabling all post-processing, including motion smoothing and interpolation so that the film is displayed exactly as its creator intended.

Fimmaker Mode will be activated automatically through the metadata of the content whether it comes from a Bluray, an OTT or DTT service, or by simply pressing a button that allows the consumer to activate it.

Zink also highlighted that it was very important for the UHD Alliance to agree on a single name for this new form of visualization. In this way, the Filmmaker Mode will be called exactly the same regardless of the manufacturer, and its logo will be present on the box or in the list of specifications of the television.

Filmmaker Mode launch partners are LG, Panasonic y Vizio, although new manufacturers will soon join.
