Atomos brings RAW recording to the Sony PXW-FX9

Recording over SDI from the FX9 with the Shogun 7 extends the performance of this camera by taking RAW data from its next-generation sensor and recording it in the flexible and efficient ProRes RAW format.

It will now be possible to record on a Atoms Shogun 7 in RAW format and through SDI signals from the full frame camera Sony PXW-FX9. It will support a wide variety of frame rates from 4Kp60 to 2Kp180.

Initially, the Atomos Shogun 7 recorded pristine Apple ProRes RAW images up to DCI 4Kp60, or in continuous 2K up to DCI 2Kp180 for stunning slow motion from the FX9 and the XDCA-FX9 extension unit. The resulting images have stunning detail and maximum latitude for post-production, optimal for HDR finishing or for greater flexibility in SDR (Rec.709).

In addition to its innovative combination of flexibility and performance, Apple ProRes RAW files are smaller than other RAW files, making file transfer, media management, and archiving simpler and faster. ProRes RAW files recorded on the Shogun 7 from the FX9's RAW output can be easily edited on the Mac.

The format is fully supported by Final Cut Pro X, along with a collection of other applications such as Assimilate Scratch, Colorfront, FilmLight Baselight, and Grass Valley Edius. Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer are also set to support ProRes RAW in 2020.
