Sony carries out 4K tests at the Confederations Cup

This will be the first major test of live recording and production of 4K content in real time, using the CineAlta 4K PMW-F55 camera.

Sony, as the only electronics manufacturer to be an official sponsor of FIFA, will carry out 4K capture tests in three of the matches held at the Mineirão Stadium during the Confederations Cup being held these days in Brazil.

This will be the first major test of live recording and production of 4K content in real time, using the CineAlta 4K PMW-F55 camera.

Thanks to its 4K image sensor with 8.9 megapixels of effective resolution, the F55 allows you to achieve, whether in HD, 2K or 4K, excellent dynamic range, a wide color gamut and pristine image quality.

Multiple recording formats include MPEG-2 HD422, MPEG4 SStP, XAVC 2K/HD, XAVC QFHD/4K and RAW 2K/4K 16-bit. This camera is small, lightweight and modular, allowing you to attach a PL mount, an FZ mount and fixed camera lenses, including Sony's second generation of PL mount lenses, plus very long-lasting olivine (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. The chassis is only slightly wider than the typical PL mount Prime lens.

Luiz Padilha, marketing and sales director at Sony Brazil Professional, has assured that these tests will be used to promote the MVS-8000X mixers, PVM-X300 monitors and the SR-R1000 recording deck, in the first production of the mobile unit built specifically to capture 4K.”

Sony will deploy five F55 4K cameras at the Mineirão Stadium to capture the best plays of the matches. The content will be edited and shown to clients in demo areas deployed around the sports venue.

Por otro lado, el host broadcaster designado por la FIFA para este campeonato, HBS, cuenta con una treintena de cámaras HDC para la cobertura Full HD de todos los encuentros de la Confederaciones.

Las pruebas en 4K se llevarán a cabo los días 17, 22 y 26 de junio, constituyendo así un magnífico banco de pruebas de cara al Mundial.

Panorámica 4K sin costuras

Por último, reseñar que las imágenes 4K generadas por las F55 se emplearán por vez primera en Brasil para lograr una imagen panorámica sin costuras desde la que seleccionar detalles en alta resolución. De esta forma es posible seleccionar cualquier porción de la imagen para producciones en vivo en televisión de alta definición, facilitando así la recuperación de cualquier situación o jugada interesante, incluso si se trata de una jugada que ha tenido lugar fuera del plano de las cámaras HD utilizadas.

El sistema ofrece un corte de cámara virtual que proporciona todo el dinamismo necesario para vivir los eventos deportivos partiendo de una cobertura completa con dos cámaras 4K. En esta experiencia 4K se están empleando monitores LCD de 30 pulgadas PVM-X300 con interfaces 3G SDI con resolución 4096 × 2160 y el formato de grabación de XAVC 4K a 60p. Del mismo modo, la señal producida también se distribuirá a televisores LED Bravia de 84 pulgadas a 4K 60p (con un resolución horizontal reescalada de 3860 píxeles).
