Sony Burano

Cinelab, the Netherlands-based audiovisual cooperative, announces an investment in fifteen camera units Sony Burano, thus becoming the first group in Europe to adopt the Burano on such a scale, underscoring its commitment to innovation, image quality and creative flexibility.

The production network of camera and sound professionals Cinelab is widely recognized for its work on documentaries, series, reality shows and high-end television commercials (TVC). His portfolio includes notable productions such as Who is the Mole, Heel Holland Bakt, The Barbie Tapes, Inside the TBS y Max Verstappen: Anatomy of a Champion.

The Sony Burano sits between the Venice 2 and Sony FX9, offering a rare combination of cinematic performance and compact ease of use. With a sensor full frame de 8.6K, internal X-OCN LT recording, integrated ND filters and an autofocus, the Burano is ideal for both narrative filmmaking and dynamic documentary recording. The firmware version 2.0, recently released, has added significant workflow and monitoring improvements, further increasing the Burano's appeal to professional teams.

Rogier den Boer, director of photography at Cinelab, comments that “this camera once again gives us that freedom and flexibility that we so need as creators. We cover a wide range of formats, from fast-paced reality shows to documentaries with careful lighting, and the flexibility of Burano allows us to provide the right tool for each creative challenge.”

The In-body image stabilization (IBIS) of the Burano, combined with compatibility with Sony's OSS E-mount and PL-mount, allows you to seamlessly switch between handheld and stand-mounted shooting. This makes the BURANO especially suitable for productions that demand agility without compromising image quality. Cinelab also cited the camera's ability to work with popular accessories and fast turnaround times in post-production as key advantages.

The investment was made in collaboration with the trusted dutch equipment supplier You call, whose custom fittings and fast delivery helped ensure the Burano fleet was ready within days. Each Cinelab member received a configuration adapted to their workflow, which accelerated the integration of the new system throughout the cooperative.

Cinelab's implementation of the Sony camera is already bearing fruit. The camera has been used in multiple high-profile Dutch productions, where its low-light performance, cinematic color science and compact format have proven indispensable on set.

"Our team was already a big user of the FX9, so the Burano seemed like a natural next step. The Burano is fast, precise and elegant. It delivers in all the important aspects: on set, in post-production and on screen," he highlights Rogier den Boer, by Cinelab.
