Chile's TVN carries out its first 3D broadcast

In an unprecedented event for Chilean television, TVN carried out the first three-dimensional transmission this Thursday under the ISDB-Tb standard. The match between Italy and Slovakia could be seen experimentally in 3D in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. Today a new experience will take place, this time in the Valparaíso area, coinciding with the match against Spain.

TVN Chile carried for the first time this Thursday a stereoscopic broadcast coinciding with the broadcast of the Italy-Slovakia match at the World Cup in South Africa. With extensive experience carried out in the metropolitan region of Santiago, TVN has become the first broadcaster that broadcasts in 3D and high definition in Chile.

Today a new experience will take place, this time in the Valparaíso area, coinciding with the match against Spain.
For this broadcast, carried out under the Japanese-Brazilian ISDB-Tb standard, other standard definition channels were further compressed to accommodate this stereoscopic high definition broadcast.

Enzo Yacometti, Director of Strategy and Business Development, commented that "we are very proud to be the first to transmit in 3D in Chile. Just as we have marked a milestone in the history of Chilean television by being the first to transmit in high definition."

For its part, the cable operator VTR has been carrying out tests with 3D technology in Chile for two months, but unlike what was done this week by TVN, which was live and direct, VTR only has an offer of no more than 30 videos of 3 minutes in length or less.
