The new video clip of Jasmine Ash, Same Sun, has been filmed by Brendan Walter with the model Pocket Cinema Camera 6K of Blackmagic Design. Likewise, he used the códec Blackmagic RAW y DaVinci Resolve for grading, which gave him the opportunity to capture an entire neighborhood with people in their homes, recording them with natural light through the windows.

Same Sun is the latest song by popular singer-songwriter Jasmine Ash, who is also the lead vocalist of the band Oh Darling and singer of the hit Starlight. The video clip shows the artist alongside Walter, who directed the filming, driving through Los Angeles greeting people on the street. It is, in essence, a love letter to the city in which the two protagonists appear interacting with strangers, friends and family from the windows, rooftops or behind the fences of their homes.

Same SunThe original plan was completely different, but due to the quarantine they were forced to change the idea, and Walter had to find a way to ensure that the recorded material was of high quality in lighting situations that he could not control. In order to carry it out, he chose the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model for its high dynamic range, its performance in low light conditions and its compact size. These features gave you the ability to go anywhere without needing a computer.

"When we had to cancel the original plan, we ran into obstacles everywhere. No equipment, no studio, and of course no thought of inviting anyone. So we had to do it with what we had at home and in the neighborhood. We had two options: wait or try. Fortunately, I had already used the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and knew that it would give me a great ability to be creative," says Walter.

To get started, they both used an app called NextDoor, which is like a social network for the community, with the goal of asking as many people in the surrounding area as possible if they wanted to participate. Jasmine would always maintain a safe distance, but at the same time create a connection between people. Then, using the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model filming in Blackmagic RAW, Walter would follow her from house to house capturing the encounters.

Same SunFor the video clip, they wanted to get great documentary style cinematic quality, at the same time they wanted the feeling to be that of a homemade project. One of the big challenges was the lighting, since they couldn't control it, and the changes in it when recording from the outside in through the windows.

"One of the shots that we had to repeat several times was the panoramic shots of the houses using the zoom because usually the changes in lighting are very dramatic and many cameras have problems with their processing. Especially one in particular in which we filmed a sunny view of the entire house and a couple dancing in their living room in very low light. Of course we couldn't ask them to install better lamps, but I knew that with the Blackmagic RAW codec and the Pocket I would achieve exactly what I needed," adds Brendan Walter.

"The camera's performance in low light and natural lighting is exceptional. With its high dynamic range and the images with natural colors and skin tones obtained when using Blackmagic RAW, I was confident that loading the footage recorded in DaVinci Resolve would achieve my goal," he concludes.
