Rosa María Mateo dismisses Paloma Zuriaga as head of RNE

He also dismisses the news director of public radio, Raúl Heitzmann. In the opinion of the unions, these dismissals do not respond to professional criteria, but to political and union reasons.

The sole provisional administrator of the corporation, Rosa María Mateo, has dismissed this Tuesday the director of RNE, Paloma Zuriaga, and the Director of News, Raul Heitzmann.

Zuriaga joined RTVE in 1985, assuming the direction of public radio in August 2018. His career has been linked to Radio Nacional, where he has worked on different stations and programs.

For his part, Raúl Heitzmann has a degree in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. In 1987 he joined Radio Nacional de España in San Sebastián and in 1991 he moved to the Madrid editorial office. He has been editor of all the daily newspapers (España at 8, Diario de las 2 and 24 Horas) and has held the area heads of Local (Madrid) and National. Since August 2018 he has been directing RNE's news programs.

The new reorganization of the leadership of Radio Nacional would be part of the plan of changes promoted by Enrique Hernandez, who has been acting as interim director of TVE's Information Services for five months.

In the opinion of the unions, these dismissals do not respond to professional criteria, but to political and union reasons, which has caused a series of chain resignations such as that of Cristina Ortiz, director of Territorial Centers, and her deputy Alejandra Martínez.
