El jurado ha destacado su trayectoria, de más de tres décadas, que “abre nuevos caminos en el cine español” y “su inconformismo, su versatilidad y la proyección internacional de su trabajo”.

El jurado del Premio Nacional de la Cinematografía correspondiente a 2020 ha otorgado el galardón a la directora de cine y guionista Isabel Coixet.

The jury wanted to "highlight a career of more than three decades characterized by breaking new ground in Spanish cinema. Her work travels through diverse geographical, cultural, linguistic and stylistic areas. She is a filmmaker who stands out for her freedom to choose themes, her courage to take risks, her non-conformity, her versatility and the international projection of her work. Her support for a new generation of filmmakers, her commitment to equality and social causes, makes her an essential stimulus and reference. “Spanish cinema would not be the same without the cinema of Isabel Coixet.”

El Premio Nacional de Cinematografía recompensa la aportación más sobresaliente en el ámbito cinematográfico español, puesta de manifiesto preferentemente a través de una obra hecha pública o una labor profesional desarrollada durante el año 2019, o, en casos excepcionales debidamente motivados, se otorga como reconocimiento a una trayectoria profesional. Concedido por el Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA), organismo adscrito al Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte, está dotado con 30.000 euros.

Jury

El jurado ha estado presidido por Beatriz Navas, directora general del ICAA, y Elisa Rodríguez Ortiz, subdirectora general de Promoción y Relaciones Internacionales del ICAA, ha actuado como vicepresidenta.

Present as members, at the proposal of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, are Ana Amigo Mérida; at the proposal of Literary Authors of Audiovisual Media, Yolanda García Serrano; at the proposal of the Union of Actors and Actresses, Ignacio Muñoz Gallo; at the proposal of the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), Isabel Raventós Armengol; and at the proposal of the ICAA, Borja Cobeaga Eguillory, Jenaro Talens Carmona and Juan Miguel Company Ramón. The winner of the 2019 call, Josefina Molina, has also acted as a member.

Coixet: commitment to cinema

Isabel Coixet (Sant Adrià del Besós, Barcelona, ​​1960) is a film director and screenwriter. Gold Medal of Fine Arts in 2009, award granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and honorary Ambassador of the Spain Brand (2020).

His work and professional career have been recognized with numerous awards. He obtained his first nomination for the Goya Awards in 1988, with his debut film Too Old to Die Young. Since then she has been awarded eight times, as a screenwriter and as a director, and has obtained four more nominations. He has also received the lifetime achievement award from the Malaga Festival (2015) and, since 2015, he has been a Knight of Arts and Letters of the French Ministry of Culture.

He started filming films in English, such as Things I Never Told You, My Life Without Me, The Secret Life of Words, Elegy o Map of the Sounds of Tokio Another combining them with filming in Spanish of films such as To those who love, Yesterday never ends o Elisa and Marcela.

Coixet has also worked successfully in the documentary field. Highlights invisible, about the work of Doctors Without Borders, Journey to the heart of torture, a documentary that won an award at the 2003 edition of the Human Rights Film Festival and Listening to Judge Garzón, winner of a Goya in 2011.

Her international career has taken her to the most important festivals, among which her relationship with the Berlin Festival stands out, whose jury Coixet was part of in 2009. Her film Nobody Wants the Night opened the competition section of the Berlin Festival in 2016, in which four of her films participated and in which she won an award with My life without me.
