The short for social networks of the A-Class model of Mercedes-AMG was recorded in format Blackmagic RAW with a unit Pocket Cinema Camera 6K of Blackmagic Design, while the editing and grading of the images was carried out in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The short, filmed in Frankfurt (Germany), has been viewed more than 67,000 times on the official Mercedes YouTube channel and was produced by the Italian company T2 Films, in collaboration with the director of photography Matteo Bertoli.

Short Mercedes-AMG“The clip had to convey a fluid and dynamic aesthetic, as it combines night driving scenes with shots in the studio, in which a dancer performs a contemporary dance around the car,” explains Matteo Bertoli. “Since this was social media content, the main creative challenge was developing a visually appealing story that fit the glossy world of automotive advertising, with the resources we had at our disposal.”

To create a sense of drama through shadows and deep blacks, Matteo used the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K with a Leica R lens and minimal light. Most of the material was recorded in 6K resolution, with an aspect ratio of 2:40 to 48 and 24 f/s.

Dual sensitivity

Short Mercedes-AMGSince Matteo Bertoli had been using the Pocket Cinema Camera model for a long time, he had already put the Blackmagic RAW format to the test and knew it was the ideal codec for this project, during which he shot with compression ratios of 5:1 and 3:1. "I love the simplicity of the workflow in terms of capture and post-production. Plus, it's very special to be able to have the benefits of RAW in such small files. I edit and grade all my work in DaVinci Resolve Studio, and since the launch of Blackmagic RAW, I haven't looked back. In my opinion, it's the best ecosystem out there."

"On this shoot we faced endless challenges, from tracking and lighting a car moving through the streets of Frankfurt to creating a refined and professional aesthetic with a minimum of staff," said Matteo. "The dynamics of working with this camera and Blackmagic RAW were fundamental to the project. Knowing that the extraordinary quality of the recorded material would facilitate its processing allowed us to take advantage of its latitude in order to collaborate and explore different creative solutions, in order to achieve the best results," concludes the director. of photo.
