Roland has developed the new P-20HD Video Instant Replayer, an affordable hardware solution to bring professional instant playback capabilities to any live production setup. This kit offers easy operation and seamless integration with most Roland A/V mixers and HDMI cameras.
When watching a sporting event live or on a broadcast stream, today's audiences expect the same high production values they see when watching professional teams on broadcast television. With the P-20HD, adding the magic of instant replay to local productions has never been easier. Thanks to the intuitive controls and integrated color LCD screen, a single operator can deliver action replays that allow fans to relive important moments, either on a streaming broadcast or on live event screens at the venue, or both at the same time.
The P-20HD record directly to SD cards high capacity, which are widely available and easy to exchange. The action can be played forward, backward or in slow motion, step by step, frame by frame, or frozen for detailed analysis. The game is recorded continuously in the background during replays, with no gaps in the action.
The P-20HD's panel features a number of dedicated hardware controls for a convenient, frustration-free experience. Transport buttons include play, pause, forward, rewind, dial in and dial out. An optically coded scroll/turn wheel provides precise and fluid control to move clips for playback and editing, while the T-bar directly adjusts the playback speed. The Speed Range function It offers ultra-fine control, perfect for focusing on intense action and competitive plays.
Workflows
With its built-in color display, the P-20HD makes it easy to manage and execute workflows in real time. In recording view, the screen shows the current video input, plus critical SD card information such as recording duration, remaining storage space, and available time. And in playback view, users can display cropped previews of all video clips for live playback or later compilation.
Once the action is completed, the media playlist maker allows clips to be added into professionally curated videos, allowing users to celebrate the best moments of a game on social media or distribute practice and training sessions to coaches and players for evaluation.
The P-20HD records natively in H.264, so files can be uploaded to most platforms without needing to go through any conversion steps.
The P-20HD can be used on its own, or in the upstream or downstream of any Roland video mixer. Users can connect two video sources via HDMI and switch/compose between them for playback capture. Both HDMI inputs feature built-in scalers, providing seamless connectivity with almost any source.
Through future firmware updates, Roland has a roadmap for additional capabilities including annotation, RS-232/LAN support, external footswitch control, file import/export, multimedia playback…
