To the 35th edition of the Goya Awards choose a total of 156 Spanish films released in our country between January 1 and December 31, 2020.

Of these 156 productions –10 more than in the previous edition–, 83 are fiction –5 less than last year–, 72 are documentaries –17 more than the last call, a figure that consolidates the boom that this genre has been experiencing– and 1 is animation –last year there were three–.

Also 57 European films compete this year –four more than in the previous edition–, 16 Ibero-American films –one more than last year– and 140 short films –76 fiction, 33 documentaries y 31 animation. Last year, 63 short films participated, of which 34 were fiction, 17 were documentaries and 12 were animated. Of the 140 titles, the short film commission has selected 15 in the fiction category, 10 animation and another 10 in the documentary section.

Of the 156 stories nominated for the 2021 Goya Awards, 58 are debut works signed by 68 directors – two more than last year. As for the scripts, 127 are original and 24 are adapted.

The Goya 2021 nominees will be announced on Monday January 11 at the Academy headquarters. Directed and conducted by Antonio Banderas y Maria Casado, the gala will be held on March 6 at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga.
