Twenty-six works aspire to the Quirino 2025 Awards

Los Quirino Awards, the great celebration of Ibero-American animation that will bring together 250 professionals from 30 countries, return from May 8 to 10 to the Tenerife city of La Laguna with an extensive calendar of activities.

A total of 26 works with participation from ten Ibero-American countries, they aspire to win the statuette in one of the ten categories of the awards. With 12 and eight works, Spain and Brazil lead the nominations followed by Portugal with five and Chile with three, while Argentina and Mexico are present with two works each. Cuba, Panama, Peru and Uruguay complete the list of finalists with one candidacy each. The winners will be known on May 10 in a ceremony at the Leal Theater in La Laguna that will be broadcast through the Quirino Awards YouTube channel.

The three finalist works in the category Best Feature Film They come from Spain. Directed by Pedro Solís and Juan Jesús García “Galo”, Buffalo Kids is an adventure film set in the American Wild West that was the second highest-grossing Spanish film of 2024. Co-directed by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba, They Shot the Piano Player it's a thriller animation that investigates the disappearance of the Brazilian pianist Tenorio Jr. during the Argentine military dictatorship. Two titles will seek to repeat the maximum recognition in the category Best Series. After having lifted the trophy in this same category in the last two editions of the Quirino, the series for preschool audiences Jasmine & Jambo is again competing for this award with its third season, also directed by Sílvia Cortés. The Brazilian Jorel's brother by Juliano Enrico, Best Series in 2019, is once again a finalist with its fifth season. The list of finalists in this category is completed with two Chilean productions: First – Season 1, directed by Bambú Orellana and Paloma Mora (in co-production with Spain), and Wow Lisa – Season 1, directed by Antonia Herrera and María Elisa Soto-Aguilar.

Portuguese animation leads, in turn, the category Best Short Film con dos obras finalistas. Professional activities of the Quirino 2025

In its eighth edition, the Coproduction and Business Forum (May 9 and 10) plans to organize more than 1,300 meetings between representatives of production companies, distributors, sales agencies, TV channels and streaming platforms. For its part, on May 8 the first edition of the Futures Laboratory, a new space for collective intelligence to explore future scenarios, identify challenges and opportunities, and design innovative cooperation formulas for Ibero-American animation. The activity will be developed in several phases with the aim of mapping the sector, anticipating future scenarios and delving into the challenges and potential of animation in areas such as sustainability, public policies and financing. In addition, it seeks to generate alternatives through creative solutions and collaborative strategies, and transform the sector through concrete actions.
